Applied AI Technical Evangelist, Startup Ecosystem

Anthropic

Job description

About Anthropic
Anthropic's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the role:
As a Technical Evangelist on the Startups team, you'll be the face of Anthropic in the startup ecosystem, driving awareness and activation among founders and their technical teams by showing them exactly what's possible with Claude and how to build it. Your focus is the startup developer community: getting builders from first API call to production, and turning early curiosity into committed platform adoption.
This role sits at the intersection of technical depth and ecosystem development. Unlike a traditional DevRel or community role, this is built for someone who has shipped products, lived the early-stage grind, and can speak to a technical co-founder as a peer. Someone who builds live demos and writes real code, not just talks about what Claude can do. Your primary mandate is inspiring adoption across the startup funnel, turning ecosystem touchpoints into active, building developers on Anthropic's platform. You'll work closely with the Startups GTM team to convert relationships with VCs, accelerators, and founder communities into developers who are genuinely building.
Key Responsibilities
Drive Developer Adoption Through Hands-On Technical Activation
  • Lead live, hands-on developer sessions at ecosystem events that take startup founders from first API call to committed platform adoption - building in the room, not just presenting slides
  • Design and run build-a-thons, technical office hours, and workshops at VC and accelerator partner events that activate developers against their real use cases
  • Develop a repeatable playbook for turning ecosystem touchpoints into measurable developer sign-ups and active usage
  • Partner closely with the Startups GTM team to create clean handoffs from relationship → activation → retention

Build Technical Content That Founders Actually Use
  • Create production-quality technical resources and products - working code samples, reference architectures, tutorial repos, and blog posts - that help a 2-person team ship with Claude in under a week
  • Build live demos and prototypes that showcase Claude's real capabilities for common startup use cases, not marketing-grade toy examples
  • Partner with the Product team to stay current on platform capabilities and ensure content reflects what's actually differentiated about Claude

Own Developer Programming at Startup Events
  • Lead the technical track at Anthropic's builder summits and global startup activations
  • Design creative sessions that move developers from curious to building within a single event - with a bias toward live coding over slide decks
  • Identify and build relationships with key technical communities - open-source contributors, developer platforms, and accelerator cohorts - to grow Anthropic's developer mindshare
  • Be a trusted, credible technical resource in the startup ecosystem that founders come to for advice

Partner Across GTM and Product
  • Surface real developer signal and founder feedback from the ecosystem back to internal teams
  • Work with GTM, Sales, and Marketing to shape developer-focused activation campaigns grounded in what founders actually care about
  • Collaborate with the Startups Partnerships team to ensure VC and accelerator relationships translate into real developer engagement and usage metrics
  • Stay closely aligned with Product on platform strategy so your content and programs reflect what Claude can genuinely do

Define and Scale What Works
  • Own success metrics tied to developer activation, net new logos, and ecosystem engagement - and build reporting that connects your work to business outcomes
  • Build repeatable processes that scale beyond yourself as the startup ecosystem grows

You May Be a Good Fit If You Have
  • Founded a company or been an early employee at a startup - you've lived the 0-to-1 journey and know what it actually takes to go from idea to product-market fit
  • The ability to write production-quality code and build live demos in front of a technical audience - not polished walkthroughs, but real builds that show how to solve a problem
  • 7+ years of experience across a combination of founding, building, and technical roles - developer relations or evangelism is a plus, but builder credibility matters more than a DevRel title
  • High energy and dynamism on stage with a highly technical audience - you can command a room of YC founders and handle tough follow-up questions without losing the thread
  • Hands-on experience building with LLMs and shipping AI-powered products - you stay close to the technology and can speak to real production tradeoffs
  • Experience turning ecosystem relationships - with VCs, accelerators, or developer communities - into measurable developer adoption
  • Willingness to travel regularly and work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends for events
  • Genuine enthusiasm for building AI responsibly - you care about Anthropic's mission beyond the technology itself

How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact - advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI - rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
Come work with us!
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
