Job Summary of the Logistics Yard Operations Manager position
Integr8staff seeks a Logistics Yard Operations Manager tooversee all daily yard operation like gate management, supervision of yard drivers, oversight of yard equipment, coordination of unit movements within the campus, and maintenance of yard inventory for a logistics and transportation.
Responsibilities of the Logistics Yard Operations Manager position
Manage and oversee a 24/7 yard operation, ensuring continuous coverage and operational efficiency.
Develop and maintain daily and weekly work plans, coordinating the activities of yard personnel, including yard drivers and yard clerks.
Plan and assign work schedules, tasks, and resources to optimize team performance and operational flow.
Ensure the yard is consistently maintained in a clean, organized, and safe condition in accordance with company standards.
Monitor and maintain productivity in alignment with established key performance indicators (KPIs).
Review and approve labor hours for all yard personnel in accordance with company policies.
Provide training and guidance to yard drivers, Post Commanders, yard clerks, and gate personnel on safe operating practices, including the use of yard tractors and utility vehicles.
Inspect and maintain yard facilities, equipment, vehicles, and inventory, including managing inventory levels and coordinating replacements as needed.
Address and resolve operational issues within the yard and gate areas in a timely and effective manner.
Evaluate the use of Yard Management Systems (YMS) and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and visibility.
Oversee and optimize the use of YMS and related technologies for accurate asset tracking and real-time visibility.
Maintain accurate inventory of yard equipment, including yard tractors, and ensure appropriate resourcing during peak periods.
Assess in-gate and out-gate processes and implement adjustments to minimize delays and improve throughput.
Conduct regular yard audits to ensure inventory accuracy and operational compliance.
Plan and optimize labor utilization to achieve budgetary goals for yard and gate operations.
Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and achieve targeted return on investment (ROI).
Lead all day-to-day yard operations, including inbound and outbound container and trailer flow, dock coordination, and gate activities.
Monitor and analyze operational metrics (e.g., dwell time, equipment utilization, dock turn times) to identify opportunities for improvement.
Identify operational bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to improve overall performance. Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, DOT) and company policies; conduct safety audits and support incident investigations.
Requirements of the Logistics Yard Operations Manager position
High School Diploma/GED
3-4 of demonstrated supervisory or managerial experience in a high-volume on yard movement, staging, tracking, operations, gate operations and managing more than 30 employees or similar environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative relations among all levels of an organization.
Computer literacy with MS Office Suite essential; prior experience with Yard Management Systems desirable and knowledge of working along with warehouse operations.
