Job description

Overview

Salary: $82,936 - $129,817 + eligible for bonus program

The Senior Manager of Operations for the Yard is responsible for overseeing all yard operations, including trailer/container movement, dock coordination, asset tracking, and yard safety. This position manages gate personnel, yard drivers, yard equipment, movement of units within the campus, shuttles to offsite yards and yard inventory. This individual will work in a dynamic matrix organization leading change initiatives to drive continuous improvement internally. 

Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee all day-to-day yard operations, including inbound/outbound container and trailer flow, dock coordination, and gate activities.
  • Manage yard personnel (gate clerks, yard drivers, and supervisors), including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Coordinate closely with warehouse, transportation, and logistics teams to ensure seamless movement of goods.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance metrics (e.g., dwell time, switcher utilization, dock turn times) to drive operational efficiency.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize yard performance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations (OSHA, DOT) and company policies; conduct safety audits and lead incident investigations, driving safety and accountability.
  • Oversee and optimize the use of Yard Management Systems (YMS) and related technologies for accurate asset tracking, maintinaing real-time visibility and control of all equipment.
  • Develop and standardize operating procedures (SOPs) to improve consistency and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and communicate performance updates to senior leadership.
  • Manage relationships with carriers, vendors, and third-party service providers operating with the yard
Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistcs, Business, or related field (preferred).
  • 7-10 years of operations experience in logistics, transportation, or distribution.
  • 3-5+ years in a leadership role managing yard or terminal operations.
  • Experience in high volume distribution centers preferred.
