Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Department of Restorative Sciences supports clinical, educational, and patient care activities within Operative Dentistry and Prosthodontics. The Department provides predoctoral and graduate education while supporting comprehensive restorative and prosthodontic patient care services.
This position primarily supports the Graduate Operative Dentistry and Graduate Prosthodontics clinics through oversight of dental assisting operations, staffing coordination, chairside clinical support, patient care support, operatory readiness, sterilization activities, inventory management, and clinic operations coordination.
Position Summary
A SIGN-ON BONUS OF $2,000 IS AVAILABLE FOR THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT FOR THIS POSITION PAID IN 2 INSTALLMENTS WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE.
$1,000 WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE DATE AND $1,000 12 MONTHS AFTER HIRE DATE.

The Dental Assistant Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating daily dental assisting operations within the Department of Restorative Sciences, with primary responsibilities supporting the Graduate Operative Dentistry and Graduate Prosthodontics clinics. This position provides direct supervision, scheduling coordination, training, and operational support for Dental Assistants while ensuring efficient clinic operations and compliance with School, Department, and OSHA standards. Due to operational and clinical coverage needs within the graduate clinics, this position combines supervisory, operational, and chairside dental assisting responsibilities.
The Dental Assistant Supervisor provides chairside dental assisting support as needed and assists with clinical coverage to support continuity of patient care and clinic operations within the Operative and Prosthodontics Graduate Clinics. Responsibilities include coordinating staffing assignments, monitoring workflow efficiency, maintaining inventory and ordering clinical supplies, ensuring operatories are appropriately stocked, and supporting clinical faculty, students, residents, and staff.
This position serves as a lead resource for dental assistant operations and supports the implementation of clinic policies, infection control standards, restorative and prosthodontic tray preparation, sterilization procedures, and digital dentistry workflows as applicable. The Supervisor collaborates closely with faculty, administration, and clinical teams to support patient care, educational activities, and operational needs throughout the Department of Restorative Sciences.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and completion of an accredited dental assisting program; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Management Preferences
Experience supervising or coordinating dental assistant operations in a clinical environment. Experience supporting restorative or prosthodontic dental procedures preferred. Strong organizational, communication, and inventory management skills are preferred. Experience working in an academic dental setting and familiarity with digital dentistry workflows preferred. Considerable experience working as a dental assistant.
Required Licenses/Certifications
Completion of an accredited dental assisting program Dental Assistant II certification preferred Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or required upon hire.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Position involves moving up to 30 lbs. Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time.

**ELIGIBILITY FOR SIGN-ON BONUS

The selected candidate for this position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus. Qualified applicants must apply and be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

To be eligible for a Sign-on bonus, an individual must not have worked in a probationary, permanent, or time-limited appointment in the last 12 months as an employee in North Carolina state government, including without limitation the judicial system, state executive branch agencies, and the university system in a position subject to the State Human Resources Act.

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time (more than 20 hours a week) employee are eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working more than 20 hours and less than 40 hours per week).

This SHRA Sign-on Bonus is contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire. All recipients must sign the Pay Back Agreement form.
