Job Summary
Full-time Instructors are professional, credentialed educators whose primary responsibility is to provide high-quality learning experiences in curriculum or continuing education courses within their areas of expertise for all Rockingham Community College (RCC) students. They are classified as exempt staff professionals, earn annual leave, and are expected to fulfill instructional responsibilities within a 38-hour workweek
This position will provide high-quality instruction in Electrical and Heating, Ventilation, and Air-conditioning (HVAC), and Mechatronics Engineering programs. Instruction includes both curriculum and workforce continuing education courses designed to prepare students for employment in skilled trades and maintenance in manufacturing facilities. This position will complete instructional and academic responsibilities in a timely manner and in alignment with the mission, policies, and procedures of RCC, the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS), and relevant accrediting agencies This position requires teaching across multiple delivery formats (face-to-face, hybrid, and online) and scheduling options (day, evening, and weekend).
This position must actively engage with industry partners to ensure program relevance and contribute to student recruitment, retention, and workforce placement. Instructors deliver instruction on the main campus, online, and at approved off-site locations. In addition to instructional duties, this position will provide academic advising, student support and follow-up services, assist with recruitment and retention efforts, and perform other duties as assigned; and they must be capable of delivering effective instruction to high school, first generation, low-income and adult learners in a variety of educational settings.
Job Duties
Curriculum and Instruction
• Deliver instruction in Electrical Systems, HVAC, and Mechatronics Engineering with a focus on construction
applications, including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair techniques.
• Develop and revise curriculum and continuing education courses aligned with NCCCS standards, industry
certifications (e.g., OSHA, EPA Section 608), and employer expectations.
• Create and maintain course syllabi that clearly outline learning outcomes, competencies, and performance
expectations.
• Design and implement hands-on lab activities and assessments that measure student mastery of technical skills and
industry competencies.
• Teach across modalities and schedules, including day, evening, weekend, and online/hybrid formats to meet
student and employer needs.
• Maintain safe, organized, and industry-standard laboratory and shop environments, ensuring compliance with
OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
• Integrate emerging technologies, tools, and equipment relevant to the electrical and HVAC industries.
• Maintain an active Learning Management System (LMS) presence, including timely grading (within a two-week
window), accessible course materials, and clear communication.
• Use institutional tools (e.g., Watermark) to monitor student progress, support retention, and conduct proactive
outreach.
• Develop with other program faculty and instructional staff for appropriate program level competencies that outline
expected student learning outcomes in curriculum and continuing education courses.
• Update and revise existing courses for relevancy and currency consistent with the position and mission of the
College.
• Develop new curriculum and continuing education programs and courses.
• Develop course syllabi for curriculum and continuing education courses to include the course description from the
NCCCS combined course library and outlining clear and appropriate student learning outcomes and expectations.
• Create the development of appropriate assessments of established learning outcomes for all courses taught in the
program.
• Report student progress in mastering established learning outcomes based on identified and approved assessments.
• Implement and provide effective instruction which demonstrates appropriate knowledge of specialized field in
accordance with best practice literature.
• Teach an appropriate instructional course.
• Teach courses at times that meet students' and employer schedules to include day, evening, online and weekends.
• Demonstrate the effective use of best practice methods to maximize student learning and success.
• Maintain appropriate classroom standards that include the effective management of students in the
classroom/lab/clinical environment in a way that promotes student learning.
• Post and maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility for advisement of students and consultation with
colleagues and day, evening and online students.
• Establish work-based learning experiences, internships, and job shadowing experiences with employers in
coordination with directors and deans.
• Order textbooks, instructional materials, and supplies as needed for instruction following established procedures.
• Provide coverage, when necessary, as designated by supervisor, for other faculty/instructional staff within the
department in case of absences.
• Assist in the development of curriculum and continuing education class schedules cooperatively with other
departments and divisions of the college and submitting to the appropriate supervisor.
• Provide timely and accurate membership records of students enrolled in curriculum and continuing education and
submit per established timelines.
• Recommend part-time faculty to the appropriate supervisor to teach courses as needed in assigned program and
continuing education classes.
• Mentor part-time faculty as needed in the assigned program.
• Maintain professional growth and best practices in the subject matter through involvement in professional
organizations, meetings, conferences and on and off campus workshops to remain relevant.
• Recruit and promote enrollment in curriculum and workforce continuing education classes
Workforce and Industry Engagement
• Establish and maintain partnerships with local contractors, employers, and industry organizations to support
program relevance and job placement.
• Coordinate work-based learning experiences, including internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing, and field
experiences.
• Collaborate with K-12 Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs to support recruitment and pathway
development.
• Promote program enrollment through outreach events, community engagement, and employer partnerships.
• Stay current with industry trends, codes, and technological advancements through professional development and
industry engagement.
Student Support and Advising
• Provide academic advising and career guidance to students pursuing electrical, HVAC, and carpentry pathways.
• Maintain regular office hours and provide tutoring and academic support outside of class time.
• Support student success initiatives, including recruitment, orientation, registration, and retention strategies.
• Refer students to appropriate campus resources as needed.
• Be available to students on a regular basis for out-of-class tutorial support.
• Participate in recruitment activities for RCC.
• Participate in the college's registration and orientation sessions as assigned.
• Maintain student files within the department as required by the accreditation agency and state and/or local policy.
• Coordinate retention strategies with the appropriate faculty/instructional staff and administrative staff to maximize
student retention.
• Support program enrichment activities, i.e. guest speakers, field trips, job shadows, internships and work-based
learning.
Administrative and Program Support
• Assist with program scheduling, textbook and supply selection, and equipment procurement.
• Maintain accurate student records and submit required reports in accordance with institutional and NCCCS
guidelines.
• Recommend, support, and mentor adjunct instructors in electrical and HVAC disciplines.
• Participate in budget planning and oversee responsible use of program resources.
• Ensure instructional spaces, tools, and equipment are maintained to reflect current industry standards.
• Ensure that all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards are met and comply with the
General Duty Clause of the OSH Act to ensure that programs operate in a safe and healthful environment.
• Ensure that all Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards are met and remain current with the standards
in the field.
Institutional and Accreditation Support
• Comply with all RCC policies, procedures, and instructional requirements, including a 38-hour workweek.
• Participate in institutional effectiveness, program review, and accreditation processes (e.g., SACSCOC).
• Serve on college committees and contribute to institutional initiatives.
• Maintain FERPA compliance and uphold professional standards of conduct, communication, and appearance.
Public and Community Relations
• Represent RCC and the Applied and Industrial Technologies Division at community events, workforce meetings,
and industry functions.
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including employers,
school systems, and community partners.
• Support the promotion of applied and industrial technology programs within Rockingham County and the region.
Additional Duties
• Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate Program Director/Coordinator, Department Chair, Dean, Vice
President for Academic Affairs and/or the President of Rockingham Community College.

Qualifications
REQUIRED:
Associates degree in Industrial Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial or Electrical Systems or related program with certifications or coursework in Air-conditioning, heating and ventilation (HVAC). Applicant must be willing to earn National Center for Construction Education Research (NCCER) and GreenLee certifications within the first six months
