About this Opportunity
Join our team as a Part Time Library Assistant on the bookmobile! This role involves working directly on the bookmobile, performing tasks such as checking materials in and out, managing fines, processing reserves, and assisting customers with their questions. Additional responsibilities include shelving and organizing materials, shelf-reading, and processing new items.
The Part Time Library Assistant also helps patrons with computers, devices, eBooks, and catalog navigation, as well as provides book recommendations based on knowledge of current authors, bestsellers, and classics. This role teaches patrons to use the Library's online resources and locates materials and information in person, by phone, and online.
The bookmobile is primarily stationed at the Southwest Brunswick Branch, with occasional assignments at other locations.
The part-time schedule may vary up to 12 hours per week. Weekend hours are required.
Education and Experience
Associate's degree with previous library experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Familiarity with current authors, bestselling titles, and classics preferred.
Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to operate a variety of library systems and office equipment. Must be able to use body members, hand tools and/or special devices to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to ten pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of ten to twenty pounds, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
