Librarian – Adult Services

Salary: $23.24- $25.98 per hour (40 hours a week, varied schedule)

Summary
The Muskingum County Library System is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Librarian to join our Adult Services team. This role involves providing direct reference services, assistance, and support to library customers, fostering a love of reading and lifelong learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Assistance:
    • Answer reference questions using print and digital resources.
    • Assist customers with library equipment and technology, including eReaders, microfilm readers, and computers.
  • Resource Management:
    • Develop and maintain the reference print and electronic collections, including databases and eBooks.
    • Review and recommend materials for collection updates, ensuring resources are current and relevant.
  • Programming and Outreach:
    • Plan and implement engaging programs for adult audiences.
    • Conduct Internet orientations to enhance digital literacy.
  • Collaboration and Engagement:
    • Create bibliographies, booklists, and other guides to support library users.
    • Direct customers to appropriate library areas and foster positive public relations.

Qualifications:

Education and Licenses:

  • Master’s in Library amp; Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Broad reading background.
  • Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of library science, public relations, and digital resources.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with automated library systems, cataloging, and electronic devices.
  • Creativity in developing programs and maintaining public engagement.
