Weekend Developer information

What is a weekend developer?

A Weekend Developer job typically involves working as a software developer on weekends, either as a part-time role, freelance work, or a side project. These roles can include maintaining existing code, developing new features, or supporting system operations outside regular business hours. Companies may hire Weekend Developers to ensure continuous development, provide support, or meet deadlines. This role is ideal for individuals looking to supplement their income, gain experience, or contribute to open-source or personal projects while managing other weekday commitments.

What does a weekend developer do?

Weekend Developers usually work part-time hours, primarily on Saturdays and Sundays, either to support project deadlines or to accommodate business operations outside standard workweeks. Their responsibilities often involve handling specific tasks such as coding new features, addressing bugs, or deploying updates, with workflows managed through collaborative tools like Slack, Jira, or Trello. Most communication and project updates happen asynchronously to align with team members in different time zones or working weekdays. This arrangement allows Weekend Developers to contribute meaningfully to team goals while maintaining flexibility, though it requires diligent self-organization and proactive communication.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend developer?

A Weekend Developer should possess strong programming skills, knowledge of web or software development frameworks, and relevant educational or work experience. Familiarity with source control tools like Git, cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, and common project management systems is typically required. Excellent time management, self-motivation, and effective communication stand out as valuable soft skills. These abilities are vital for balancing limited weekend hours with delivering high-quality results and collaborating with teammates remotely.

Job description

Norwichtown Rehabilitation & Care Center is seeking an energetic, compassionate, and creative Recreation Assistant to join our growing Therapeutic Recreation team.

We're looking for someone who believes recreation is more than bingo—it’s about creating meaningful experiences, encouraging independence, building relationships, and helping residents continue doing the things they love.

Responsibilities include:
  • Assisting with engaging group and one-on-one activities

  • Helping develop new and innovative programming

  • Supporting community outings and special events

  • Encouraging resident participation and social engagement

  • Assisting with holiday celebrations, themed events, and seasonal activities

  • Helping expand evening and weekend programming to better meet resident needs

  • Collaborating with all departments to create a vibrant, resident-centered environment

We're looking for someone who is:
  • Creative and enjoys thinking outside the box

  • Positive, dependable, and energetic

  • Compassionate with excellent communication skills

  • Comfortable leading small and large groups

  • Organized and flexible

  • Interested in making a meaningful impact every day

Experience in long-term care, recreation, education, childcare, hospitality, event planning, fitness, music, or customer service is a plus—but we're happy to train the right person with the right attitude.

Schedule

Part-time with flexibility to include some evenings and weekends as we continue expanding programming opportunities for our residents.

Why join Norwichtown?

Our goal is to create a recreation department that residents genuinely look forward to every day. We're investing in fresh ideas, new experiences, community partnerships, and programming that reflects the interests and passions of the people who call Norwichtown home.

If you're passionate about bringing joy, purpose, and creativity to older adults, we'd love to meet you.
