If you enjoy working with school aged children the Mental Health Specialist II - School Therapist is a rewarding opportunity to work in an ever-changing environment based in the local School District and provides mental health services to children & adolescents under the direction of the district administrator and CHW.

Coos Health & Wellness supports education leave and funding for ongoing training in the latest evidenced-based modalities. For those pursuing clinical licensure, supervision may be available or can be arranged. Associate registration is not required to begin working as a school-based therapist. Coos County offers a variety of unique school populations and sizes; with positions at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Here's what you would be doing:
  • Perform comprehensive mental health assessments with appropriate DSM-V_TR diagnosis for students, complete treatment plans and maintain progress notes.
  • Observe and identify at risk students developing mental or emotional disorders, poor school performance, or self-destructive, or antisocial acts and initiate interventions. Provide mental health services to students with identified disorders.
  • Collaboration with school administrators to advocate for mental health and help students with the challenges they face.
  • Provide preventative interventions and treatment to resolve or minimize the impact of a disorder on the child/adolescent, the school and the community.
  • Coordinate service plans with family, caregivers, medical, psychiatric and other providers.
  • Evaluate and make appropriate community referrals.
  • Facilitate social skills training in a group or classroom setting.
  • Represent the comprehensive mental health program to the community to promote the interest and education in mental health.
  • Maintain Quality Assurance standards as set by CCMHD.

Skills and experience we are seeking for this position include:
  • Qualified Mental Health Professional or eligible; Masters degree in psychology, social work, counseling or other related behavioral health field; or Bachelors' in nursing or occupational therapy with license and experience.
  • Through knowledge of the techniques and principles of psychological, behavioral, and social disorders, skills dealing with the mentally ill and their families.
  • Prefer 2 or more years post graduate experience providing clinical mental health services to children/adolescents. CADC, bi-lingual a plus.
  • Skilled in providing treatment to individuals with psychological, behavioral, and social disorders. Ability to develop a cooperative relationship with families, physicians and other parties involved in treatment.
  • Ability to learn/utilize computer medical record systems and general office equipment.
