Job description

Job Title: Director Infection Control

Pay Range: $167,000.00 — $225,000.00 per year

Pay Transparency: The above reflects the anticipated hourly wage range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey. The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Summary: The Infection Prevention Director is administratively responsible for the Infection Prevention program. The IP Director ensures that the infection prevention plan of the hospital is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws, and regulations. The IP Director coordinates under the direction of the VP of Quality, Safety, and Experience and the Chairperson of Infectious Disease to ensure compliance with the hospital's infection prevention program.  

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, or related field is required.  A Master's Degree is preferred. 
  • Certification in Infection Prevention CIC required. 
  • A minimum of five (5) to ten (10) years of clinical experience in an acute care facility, and/or two years of experience in Infection Control Leadership are required. 
  • Knowledgeable of OSHA, APIC and CDC regulations and guidelines is required. 
  • Must be knowledgeable of infection prevention and control principles, practices, and procedures as evidenced by certification.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates hospital-wide infection prevention activities related to the strategic initiatives and departmental goals. 
  • Coordinates the functions of the infection prevention committee, including the annual risk assessment, development of the annual infection prevention plan, and annual appraisal. 
  • Ensures the Infection Prevention staff are trained in hospital epidemiology principles and responsible for the surveillance, analysis, and reporting of nosocomial infections. 
  • Coordinates ongoing activities related to the publicly reported CDC National Healthcare Safety Network and assists in the implementation of performance improvement initiatives to improve patient care. 
  • Maintains positive employee relations within the hospital as observed from employee comments, informal observations, and complaint resolution. 
  • Collaborates with Employee Health and all hospital departments regarding exposure to communicable diseases and coordinates the reporting to regulatory agencies for patients and employees as required. 
  • Prepares and approves the department budget for the Infection Prevention Dept. 
  • Responsible for IP team functionality. 
  • Provides ongoing formal hospital-wide education regarding infection prevention practices and issues.
