Job Summary
The Medical Assistant Senior of VALIANT Care: Primary Care Clinic at Domino's Farms is one of the founding members of a primary care clinic designed to remake the foundation of our health care system and forge new models of care delivery. Key features of this model will include: virtual-first care delivery, asynchronous care models, rapid cycle innovation through a Living Lab model with a multi-disciplinary care team and leveraging AI and other technologies to deliver high-quality care.
The clinic will operate with a small, highly collaborative team where flexibility, communication, and teamwork are essential. Team members will work closely across traditional roles to ensure patients receive the right care at the right time, whether through virtual visits, in-person appointments, or follow-up between visits. Every member of the care team is expected to contribute ideas, adapt to new processes, and help create efficient workflows that improve both the patient and team experience.
The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, embraces change, takes initiative, and is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care. They are a dependable team player who is comfortable solving problems, learning new ways of working, and helping establish the operational foundation for a new and innovative primary care clinic.
VALIANT Care: Primary Care at Domino?s Farms will be housed within a shared structure between the Office of Innovation and Ambulatory Care Services.
Responsibilities*
Facilitation:
  • Reviews schedule to identify changes in daily operations and develops schedule rotation to support skill maintenance and cross-training for all Medical Assistants.
  • Maintains current competencies and mandatory training. Attends mandatory clinic and hospital training programs, as appropriate.
  • Participates in, prepares for, attends, and may lead meetings such as daily management huddles, rounds, and MA meetings.
  • Performs administrative and clinical operational tasks and duties assigned.
  • Participate in the implementation of new services or use of new equipment.
  • Oversees and is involved in the ordering process while striving to meet budgetary expectations.
  • Participates in Medication Management Surveys and may manage the inventory and ordering in the medication room within their scope of practice.
  • Coordinates use of exam/procedure room space.
  • Actively participates in regulatory compliance activities and ensures that the Regulatory Readiness checklists are completed and submitted. Responsible for action planning related to their role in clinic during any regulatory readiness or actual regulatory surveys.
  • Participates in value stream analysis for new products or services.
  • Participates in the generation of ideas and adoption processes of ways to improve workflows and enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Performs clerical and administrative duties that support patient care delivery, including appointment coordination, patient records management, insurance verification, and routine clinic operations.

Education and Mentorship:
  • Provides in-service training for Medical Assistants.
  • Supports orientation and shadowing opportunities as assigned.
  • May provide skill, competency, and workflow feedback to Medical Assistants and to staff members regarding clinical operations.
  • Supports ensuring that training/competencies for Blue Folders are current for Medical Assistants.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in their clinic location mentoring other Medical Assistants to promote professionalism and growth.
  • Develops a curriculum to support the learning of best practices for Medical Assistants.
  • May organize and serve as a point of contact for Instructions for Use (IFUs).

Leadership and Culture Building:
  • Serves as a positive role model and plays an integral role in supporting the clinic's leadership team.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts such as job fairs, recruitment events, or interviews.
  • May help delegate and participate in downtime activities.
  • Acts as a liaison for High Reliability, safety protocols, and other UMHS initiatives.
  • Performs other related duties within scope of practice as assigned.

This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
  • General supervision is received from Administrative Manager, Nurse Manager or Medical Director.

Required Qualifications*
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology

  • Medical Assistant, CMA or RMA certification.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality, patient-centered primary care.

Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes .
Work Schedule
The standard work schedule for this position consists of five 8-hour shifts per week, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Scheduled hours may be adjusted based on clinic operations and patient care needs.
Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
