Job description

Health Informaticist Registered Nurse (RN) Coordinator

Preferred experience: Program Management, organizational skills with experience in deploying techniques in large complex organizations across diverse functional teams. Manage training schedules with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The Health Informaticist Registered Nurse (RN) Coordinator holds responsibility and accountability for every aspect of the nursing process. This position influences outcomes through collaboration with interdisciplinary team members and executes position responsibilities that reflect leadership, experience, and innovative approaches while systematically evaluating current practices. The coordinator demonstrates expertise in core informatics functions, including content management, application support, optimization of health information technology systems, enterprise data management, business architecture management, partnership management, requirements management, and change management. This position includes a leading role in the deployment of the Federal Electronic Health Record (FEHR), which will require effective communication and collaboration with multiple stakeholders both within and outside the VA Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS). This is essential for coordinating actions, executing tasks, providing training, and addressing all issues related to future FEHR deployment. Additionally, the incumbent will support telehealth and digital health activities within the service and contribute to process improvement initiatives for the VANCHCS involving the informatics service. The position reports to the Chief Health Information Officer, ASoC clinical informatics at the Northern California Healthcare System.

Major duties include, but may not be limited to:

  • Exercises leadership in the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and sustainment of hardware and software applications integrated with the electronic health record (EHR) and associated programs/applications.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including other program and service leaders at both the facility and network levels.
  • Works closely to establish and maintain effective relationships with all levels of Veteran Affairs (VA) staff nationwide.
  • Accountable for achieving documented outcomes at the program or service level. These outcomes must be broad and complex, demonstrating performance and leadership that benefit the facility at any organizational level, whether within a facility, the Veterans Integrated Services Network (VISN), or the Veterans Affairs Central Office (VACO).
  • Serve as the future Site Integrator/Deployment Coordinator for the FEHR, coordinating all activities and communications, and managing actions related to the deployment-both during the deployment phase and for sustainment activities afterward.
  • Supervise the team currently managing the electronic medical record (EMR) instance and guide their transition into future roles before, during, and after the EHR deployment.
  • Support activities related to telehealth and digital health initiatives within the clinical informatics service, as directed by the chief of the service.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives that the service is involved in, under the direction of the chief of the service.
