Job description

Job Title: Nurse Informaticist
Location: Riedman Training Center (100 Kings Highway South Irondequoit, NY) and Remote
Hours Per Week: 40
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
SUMMARY:
The Nurse Informaticist serves RRH's strategic and operational goals in Health Informatics and supports Nursing operation by applying expertise in the fields of clinical informatics and nursing.
This person is a key member Nursing Informatics initiatives at Rochester Regional Health, and a substantial portion of their work will focus on nursing where they apply their knowledge of nurse training, practice and workflows, and will collaborate with clinical nursing and their leadership. This key individual will assist the Chief Nursing Officers (CNOs) and identified Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in our organization in coordinating with IS&T as part of Health Informatics to support their strategic needs. In doing so the Nurse Informaticist will critically assess Nursing's needs and translate them into IS&T requirements to drive usability, safety, and efficiency opportunities that serves our patients and clinicians through optimization of workflows, the Electronic Medical Record and other Health IT systems.
As a clinical informaticist, the Nurse Informaticist will support the vision and mission of Health Informatics, work in this context, and exemplify the concepts of professionalism, collaboration and leadership while applying advanced knowledge of subject domains in healthcare delivery, information technology and social-behavioral science. They help evaluate data, implement best practices to improve patient care, participate in process improvement, align clinical and IT teams on projects and processes, and support end users. This individual shall work with broader Health Informatics, nursing leadership, other clinicians, operations, and IS&T to define key milestones and provide progress updates on approved initiatives and oversee and ensure quality control, usability and safety throughout project life cycles.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Act as liaison between the end user and the Health Informatics and IT teams, relying on intimate knowledge of clinical workflow, operations, and technical processes.
  • Collaborates with other Health Informatics initiatives and teams (Advisory Group structure, Clinical Decision Support committee, etc.) and utilizes RRH's change management tools (SIDERS, RFCs, etc.)
  • Communicates regularly with clinical and Health Informatics Leadership and peers: this includes presentations, weekly attendance, and gemba walks.
  • When assigned, participates in the Nurse Informatics aspects of the Alternate Care Model in Nursing (ACMN) initiative to redesign acute care delivery through team-based care, optimal staffing ratios, workflows and technology. In support of the ACMN initiative will assist in the health informatics design and implementation of:
    • Transforming the patient care delivery model for med/surg units.
    • Elevating the role of the RN to coordinator of care while expanding the roles of LPNs, PCTs, Pharmacists and Food Service to collaborate and provide coordinated care to the patient.
    • Technology supplementation including Virtual Nursing possibilities (Teladoc), Rover, and others to be discovered
    • Enabling team members to practice at the top of their license through continued deployment of LPN SIDER, Nurse Brain, etc.
  • Participates in implementing standards in the EMR to improve patient safety, usability, efficiency, cost, and other health system goals, while assuring that the EMR and related clinical and operational practices are compliant with regulatory standards and applicable Health Informatics and Epic best practices.
  • Works with various disciplines and specialties; including physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing and support staff to support workflow, EMR education, and reporting (defining, gathering, displaying, and using data on key metrics). Achieves consensus and standardization for the design and workflow of the clinical application solutions. Works with stakeholders on issues until a resolution is found, communicates content and context, and escalates issues as needed.
  • Process improvement may include but not limited to clarifying, systematically prioritizing, and tracking RFCs (Request for Change) and other change initiatives, assuring feasibility (operational, technical, and user aspects), efficiency, and communication. May lead and collaborate with Project Coordinators where it is related to Advisory Group workflows and information sharing to assure efficiency in and compliance with Health Informatics and IS&T processes in request management (process checklist, RACI collaboration, etc.)
  • Collaborates with training and support teams (e.g. IT training, STS Program and Nursing Education, PFLS) for dissemination of information regarding system workflows and user support. Participates in training content design as the subject matter expert, confirming that education addresses what clinicians need to know to use the system effectively.
  • Works with the Health Informatics leadership to gain the support and consensus of physician, clinician and business leadership regarding information technology needs and priorities.
  • Leads or participates in committees and projects that rely on nursing informatics.
  • Fosters effective teamwork between clinicians and other members of the organization
  • Maintains a strong understanding of clinical practice to continually help expand the vision of application use for clinical improvement.
  • Maintains expertise in the electronic medical record, staying current on enhanced system functionality/ updates to optimize the system and make recommendations for ongoing adoption according to clinical needs. If certified and assigned, may build clinical content in the EMR.
  • As assigned and when feasible, visits and supports inpatient and ambulatory sites throughout the health care system.
  • Accepts and provides feedback effectively on a regular and timely manner to key stakeholders and team members as assigned
  • Additional duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Registered Nurse license in New York State or registry eligible.
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Degree in field relevant to Health Informatics.
  • Three (3) years of relevant Health Informatics work experience (examples include, but are not limited to, clinical data, health information, clinical data systems, electronic medical records, Informatics nurse).
  • Informatics Board certification or similar.
  • Certified Epic clinical content builder.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green belt or above, and a familiarity in statistical modeling.Nursing experience that expands across multiple areas, i.e. inpatient, outpatient, research, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components.
