Job description

Safety Specialist – Union Drywall Company

Location: Dallas, Texas
Affiliation: Local 429
Position Type: Full-Time

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Safety Specialist to support and enforce workplace safety standards for a union drywall and interior systems contractor operating throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The Safety Specialist will play a critical role in promoting a strong safety culture across multiple commercial construction job sites while ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and union safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine job site safety inspections and audits on active construction projects
  • Identify hazards and implement corrective actions to reduce workplace injuries and incidents
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, state, local, and company safety regulations
  • Lead and document toolbox talks, safety meetings, and new hire orientations
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses and prepare detailed reports
  • Maintain accurate safety records, reports, certifications, and training documentation
  • Assist project managers and field supervisors in developing site-specific safety plans
  • Monitor PPE usage and enforce safe work practices among field personnel and subcontractors
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training programs including fall protection, scaffold safety, lift operation, silica awareness, and other construction-related topics
  • Support workers’ compensation claims management and return-to-work procedures
  • Stay current on changes to OSHA standards and construction safety best practices
  • Build positive working relationships with union leadership, field employees, and management teams

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of construction safety experience preferred
  • Experience in drywall, framing, ceilings, or commercial interior systems strongly preferred
  • OSHA 30 certification required; OSHA 500 preferred
  • Knowledge of union construction environments and commercial job site operations
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and travel between job sites throughout the DFW area
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and digital reporting systems
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required

  • CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician)
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Scaffold Competent Person
  • Fall Protection Competent Person
