UltraViolet Cyber is seeking a Security Engineer who will provide Security Operations Center (SOC) engineering support and guidance to the teams and the client that improve the client’s cybersecurity posture, to include the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems by identifying, verifying, and understanding cyber events.
 
Perform all design/engineering, configuration, implementation, and administrative activities associated with event collection tier solutions. Normalize and correlate such logs, events, information, and data to derive a complete and comprehensive view of the TSA IT security environment and detect, identify, and confirm security events, breaches, and attacks.
 
Leverage automation software to efficiently manage and operate a large number of servers and devices for a Federal Security Operations Center. The Security Engineer will provide operations and maintenance (O&M) for hardware, and support the full engineering life cycle (concept to retirement) of the systems developed or maintained under this contract.
 
Must be legally allowed to work in the US, and the work must be done in the US. 
 
This is a 1-2 days per week onsite role in Herndon, VA, supporting a large DHS agency. The selected hire must be a US Citizen with an active Secret clearance.
What You'll Do:
  • File and Directory Management: Using essential tools to handle files, directories, and command-line environments.

  • System Operations: Managing running systems, booting into different run levels, controlling services, and handling virtual machines.

  • Storage Configuration: Setting up partitions, logical volumes, and configuring file systems with attributes like permissions and encryption.

  • User and Group Management: Creating and managing users, groups, and access control.

  • Security Management: Configuring firewalls, SELinux, and ensuring system security.

  • Software Management: Installing, updating, and maintaining software packages and core services.

What You've Done:
  • At least three years of experience in security focused IT engineering
  • At least three years of experience in the operations, management, monitoring and maintenance of network security devices and technologies, including firewalls, routers, VPN, IDS sensors, proxies, wireless access points, PKI, domain controllers, security information event managers, etc.
  • At least three years of practical experience in the application, management and implementation of security policies, controls and baselines to wide range of operating systems (e.g. Windows, OS X, Linux, etc.), network equipment (e.g. routers, switches) and network security devices (e.g. firewalls, IDS sensors, proxy servers, VPN concentrators, etc.)
  • Thorough understanding of Linux-based systems to execute O&M for Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers through both command line and automation software
  • Additional skills/experience should include: Linux Admin, Ansible, Splunk Admin, VMware, IDS/IPS hardware support, and log collection
Education, Certification & Clearance Requirements:
  • Certification: One or more: Microsoft, Linux or Cisco
  • Certification examples include:..... MCSE or CCNP
  • Clearance Requirements: SECRET (required upon hire)
  • High school diploma needed
