Job description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood currently has an opportunity for an HSSE Lead located near the San Antonio, TX area, reporting to the Construction HSSE Manager and leading a project safety team of 2-3. This role has overall responsibility to provide positive leadership on HSSE issues and necessary guidance and support to ensure successful Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) management of Process and Energy in the Renewable Energy and Power service line. Key Responsibilities:

  • Continued development and monitoring of the implementation of the Wood HSSE management system
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to Wood project HSSE team
  • Provide expert advice and support to operational management in matters related to HSSE
  • Implement an assurance strategy to monitor compliance against the project HSSE Execution Plan and HSSE procedures
  • Assist and advise the Construction HSSE Manager and Operations Manager in meeting project and corporate HSSE objectives
  • Be aware of all current OSHA and Wood HSSE procedures to be operated within area and project scope
  • Project HSSE staffing, coaching, performance management, and terminations
  • Establish a working relationship with Client and Contractor HSSE Representatives
  • Ensure an adequate interface with relevant stakeholders (such as contractors, Client, regulatory authorities, local communities) in matters related to HSSE
  • Examine HSSE trends and propose actions to prevent recurrence of incidents, accidents, and near-misses
  • Implementing and compliance with Wood and OSHA training requirements
  • Managing leading, lagging indicators and assurance activities
  • Provide HSSE support, guidance and leadership to contractor management, supervision and craft
  • Support incident reporting and investigations
Skills / Qualifications
  • Nationally recognized certifications (CSP, ASP, CHST, or OHST), OSHA 500, or degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related field
  • Possess a minimum of 10 years of progressive performance responsibility within the HSSES field
  • Ability to safely navigate construction sites
  • Established experience managing large, complex capital construction projects
  • Demonstration of competency to manage multiple HSSE teams and multiple projects
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification
  • Additional leadership or HSSES based continuing education
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • High level of integrity for reporting, as well as upholding enterprise policy
  • Proven ability to self-direct and complete tasks on-time with minimal 0oversight
  • Ability to objectively audit compliance in the workplace
  • Must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft programs (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to perform all physical requirements while wearing protective face coverings per CDC recommendations and Wood policies relative to COVID
  • Willingness to travel on a schedule and in a manner required by Wood
