Job description

Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City. CAMBA serves more than 65,000 individuals and families each year, citywide, including almost 13,000 youth. Our 180+ programs in over 100 locations improve the lives of a diverse cross section of New Yorkers. From homelessness prevention in Staten Island to supportive housing in the Bronx; from employment training in Manhattan to after school programs and college access in Brooklyn; from family shelter and support in Queens to increasing affordable housing across the city, CAMBA provides holistic services to help struggling New Yorkers stabilize their lives and become self-sufficient.
Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP): Through this New York City Department of Youth and Community Development sponsored program, CAMBA places youth ages 14 to 24 in minimum wage work experiences, and oversees their employment. Youth work for six weeks during July and August, and placements are made in both public agencies and private non-profits. Types of work include clerical, custodial, teacher's aides, library assistants, hospital and recreational aides. As a project sponsor since 1995, CAMBA distributes applications, conducts intake, develops jobs, and monitors employment.
Position: Monitor
Reports To: Career Ready SYEP Director
Location: 145 Stanton St. New York, NY 10002
What The Monitor Does:
  • Through periodic telephone calls and site visits to employment locations, assure that youth clients are working appropriately with employers, and employers are working appropriately with youth clients.
  • Provide conflict resolution between employers and employees, as needed.
  • Meticulously document interactions with youth clients and employers.
  • Help facilitate document collection, form completion, and worksite placement.
  • Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:
  • Current undergraduate student.

Other Requirements:
  • Must obtain Dept. of Education fingerprint clearance
  • Ability to maintain fingerprint clearance throughout the duration of employment.
  • The ability to converse in Mandarin and/or Spanish. Preferred

Compensation: $20.00 hourly
When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.
Status: Full-time (40 hours per week) (Temp June-August)
