General Description
Provide classroom instruction to non-credit students on Medical Coding. Prepares the student for employment as a Medical Coder and to pass the Certified Professional Coding (CPC), American Association of Professional Coders exam. In conjunction with staff members, perform instruction, and reporting requirements as specified by director. This is part-time position. Reports to the Director. Off-campus work within Union County may be required.
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
• Provide Medical Coding instruction to students including anatomy and physiology and medical terminology.
• Communicate class content to the students so that learning occurs, skills are developed, and students are motivated to learn and achieve their training objectives.
• Prepare students for employment as a Medical Coder and to pass the Certified Professional Coder (CPC), American Association of Professional Coders exam.
• Instruct students on principles of medical coding related to the three main code books: CPT®, ICD-10- CM Code Set and HCPCS Level II.
• Prepare and enter grades in CEWD database Participation Evaluation Reports PERS upon notification of readiness.
• Conduct required assessments.
• Respond to program requests.
• Accepts all other assignments which will help CEWD realize contractual goals.
• Travel to all campuses and satellite locations as needed.
• Other duties as assigned by director and CEWD administration.
• At all times exercise professionalism and confidentiality with staff and students.
• Maintain daily attendance.
• Ability to teach remote live.
Education Requirements
• Minimum of High School Diploma required. Associate degree in a health care field preferred.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Certificate.
• AAPC Approved Instructor Certificate.
• 5 years relevant experience in the medical field minimum.
Experience
• Knowledge of navigation of healthcare industry rules and regulations, including HIPAA, False Claims Act, Fair Debt Collections Act, and Stark law.
• Use of remote-live platform for instruction.
• Strong computer, interpersonal and organizational skills.

• Ability to multi-task in a busy environment
• Ability to work with persons of varied education, experience, social and economic backgrounds.
• Ability to remain discreet with student and staff information.
• Commitment to serve a diverse student population.
• Ability to meet deadlines.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
• This position's duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
• Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
• Some travel required.
