Application Information
The Florence Events Center is seeking a temporary Lead Cook to support kitchen operations and deliver high-quality food service for events, programs, and facility activities. This position leads food preparation and kitchen workflow, assists with menu execution, maintains food safety and sanitation standards, and provides direction to kitchen staff as needed. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, and able to work in a fast-paced environment with a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and special events. The FEC kitchen facility consists of the cooking area, concessions area, dishwashing station, exterior walk-in cooler and various kitchen equipment storage areas.
This position is through Cardinal Services and is not a direct City of Florence position. Applicants will be screened by the City and then referred to Cardinal to complete an employment application through Cardinal.
Job Description
  • Works under the direction of the FEC Manager
  • Serve as lead cook for all meals, including breakfasts, lunches, and dinners from set menu
  • Develop and follow preparation time schedule for meals and menu items
  • Prepare individual trays for special dietary restrictions
  • Generally direct Food and Beverage Workers in food prep and instruction
  • Ensure all prepared food meets quality standards and deadlines
  • Keep an accurate inventory
  • Maintain a clean environment and ensure health inspection standards are met

Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a prep cook in a commercial kitchen
  • Possess or obtain active Food Handlers Card in good standing by the hire date
  • Must be able to have a flexible schedule (including nights, weekends, and holidays)

  • The top scoring applicants from this initial interview round will be asked to conduct an in-person panel interview key staff you may be working with. However, this depends upon the position/recruitment. In certain circumstances, the City may forgo the in-person panel interview and move on to the Department Head in-person interview. All applicants will go through the same process.
  • The Department Head interview is typically the final stages of the process and your chance to leave an impression through your enthusiasm, preparation, abilities, and resume. After this interview, the Department Head and the City Manager will meet to discuss the candidates and the City Manager will make the final decision based on the Department Head's recommendation.
  • Human Resources will reach out to all applicants and confirm their status in the application process. The top candidate will receive a conditional offer that specifies what background procedures will be conducted (depends upon position).
  • Applicants not selected may be placed on an eligibility list for the Department to use in the 6 months following the close of the recruitment. Applicants will be notified if they are placed on the eligibility list. This list will allow the Department to pick up with the candidates where they left off in the recruitment should another vacancy for the same position become available. The eligibility list may be closed at any time by the sole discretion of the Department Head.
