Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Health Behavior is one of eight departments in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina. Founded in 1943, the Department develops, and disseminates knowledge and interventions that promotes the health of individuals and communities. The Department's 25 faculty members have backgrounds in behavioral science, health education, international health, social and cognitive psychology, medicine, medical sociology, and communications, and are united by their commitment to the disciplines of public health together with the social and behavioral sciences.
Position Summary
This temporary communications specialist will support communications, outreach and dissemination activities for the Carolina Center for Healthy Work Design and Worker Well-Being, a NIOSH-funded Center of Excellence for Total Worker Health housed within the Department of Health Behavior at UNC Chapel Hill. The position will develop and maintain website content, social media communications, email campaigns, and branded public-facing resources. This is a fully remote, part-time temporary position anticipated to begin in August 2026 and work approximately 10-15 hours per week.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences
  • Coursework in communications, journalism, marketing, public health, public relations or related field
  • Experience supporting communications efforts for a research center, academic institution, nonprofit organization, or public health initiative.
  • Experience managing website content using WordPress.
  • Experience developing content for LinkedIn.
  • Experience creating email campaigns and digital resources using MailChimp, Canva, Outlook or similar tools
