General Notes
Temporary assignments may be filled at any time; only competitive applicants selected will be contacted and provided with instructions on the continued application process. Please no phone calls or emails. The projected end date for this assignment is August 31, 2027. This temporary assignment is benefits-eligible. The selected candidate must have a current/valid Texas driver's license and a clean driving record.
Purpose
Provide semi-skilled and installer helper level installation of Telecommunications cabling for the University of Texas at Austin. Please describe the Preferred Qualifications that you would like your UTemp to have: Experience installing inside plant communications cabling and wireless access points. Experience in commercial construction work.
Responsibilities
  • Install Telecom cabling in new and existing structures in enclosed and cramped spaces or at heights Operate mechanical and electrical equipment used in the installation of cabling in close proximity to high voltage and high pressure steam pipes.
  • Complete Reports of time, materials, and other necessary items required for the assigned tasks. Set up and dismantle equipment. Operate a UT vehicle

Required Qualifications
High School graduate or GED. Work constructively as a team member. Exercise good safety habits. Experience installing inside plant communications cabling and wireless access points. Experience in commercial construction work. Regular and punctual attendance.

Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Working Conditions
  • Attire: Jeans.
  • Jeans, work shirt, polo or button up with long pants (no shorts), closed-toe shoes or work boots, steel-toe preferred.

Work Shift
  • Hours per week - 40
  • The work hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Employment Eligibility:
