Job description

GridSource is seeking a Sr. Director of Telecom Operations to lead construction and field operations across the San Antonio market. This role is responsible for overseeing the successful execution of fiber optic construction projects, driving operational excellence, ensuring financial performance, and developing high-performing teams.
Reporting to executive leadership, the Director of Telecom Operations will manage daily operations across aerial, underground, and fiber construction activities while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and profitably. The ideal candidate will have extensive telecom construction experience, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven ability to manage multiple crews and projects in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
  • Oversee day-to-day telecom construction operations throughout the San Antonio market.
  • Lead aerial, underground, directional drilling, fiber splicing, and FTTH construction activities.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and according to customer specifications.
  • Drive production performance, resource allocation, scheduling, and workforce utilization.
  • Implement and maintain operational processes, reporting standards, and best practices.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead and develop Construction Managers, Project Managers, Foremen, and field personnel.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Support recruiting, workforce planning, employee development, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Mentor leaders and provide coaching to improve operational performance and team effectiveness.
Financial Management
  • Manage project budgets, labor costs, production metrics, and profitability within the assigned market.
  • Review job costing, forecasting, and operational reports to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure efficient use of labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor resources.
  • Drive initiatives that improve operational efficiency and maximize project margins.
Client & Customer Relations
  • Maintain strong relationships with customers, municipalities, utility partners, and subcontractors.
  • Serve as the primary operational contact for key client accounts within the market.
  • Ensure customer expectations are met through effective communication and project execution.
  • Support business development efforts by identifying growth opportunities and operational capabilities.
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture throughout all operations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, customer requirements, and industry standards.
  • Partner with EHS leadership to drive safety performance and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of leadership experience in telecommunications construction, utility construction, or infrastructure operations.
  • Strong knowledge of fiber optic construction, including aerial, underground, directional drilling, and splicing operations.
  • Proven experience managing multiple crews, projects, and operational teams simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of project management, scheduling, budgeting, and job costing.
  • Demonstrated success developing teams and driving operational performance.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with construction management software, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the assigned market.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) deployment projects.
  • Experience managing telecom construction operations in Texas markets.
  • OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training.
  • Experience working with major telecom providers and utility partners.
Travel
  • Approximately 25-40% travel throughout the San Antonio market and surrounding project areas.
