Job Description Summary

Technology and data are critical to powering Vanguard's client experience, investment products, and advice. As advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI continue to shape decision-making, there is a growing need for leaders who can translate complex data into strategic outcomes. Vanguard's Technology Leadership Program (TLP) is designed to develop the next generation of IT leaders through hands-on experience, collaboration, and rotational learning. Through three unique rotations, you will build deep expertise in advanced analytics while developing the leadership skills needed to drive innovation and impact across Vanguard.

Job Description

Drive Insights Through Advanced Analytics and Innovation

At Vanguard, we put investors first-and that means using data and advanced analytics to make smarter, faster decisions. As part of the Technology Leadership Program in the Data Scientist track, you'll apply machine learning, statistical modeling, and AI to solve complex business problems and improve outcomes for our clients. Your work will focus on building and applying models that uncover patterns, predict outcomes, and optimize processes across the enterprise. Through real-world projects and collaboration with business and technology partners, you'll gain exposure to how advanced analytics enables Vanguard to deliver value at scale.

Are you a self-starter who enjoys tackling complex problems and building analytical solutions from the ground up? Join a team where innovation is driven by curiosity and purpose. You'll work alongside data scientists, engineers, and business leaders to design and implement solutions, while building your ability to influence decisions, communicate insights, and lead through technical expertise. Through hands-on projects, capstones, and rotations, you'll strengthen both your analytical depth and leadership capabilities.

The Technology Leadership Program is a rotational development experience designed for early-career technologists ready to make an impact. Data Scientist participants complete three rotations across Data & Analytics-focused teams, gaining exposure to different domains, tools, and business challenges while increasing ownership, responsibility, and leadership capability over time.

In this program, you will:

  • Develop and apply machine learning models and advanced statistical techniques to solve business problems

  • Work with large and complex data sets to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities

  • Design experiments, build predictive and prescriptive models, and support model validation efforts

  • Translate business problems into analytical approaches and deliver solutions from concept to implementation

  • Partner with data, engineering, and business teams to drive data-informed decision-making

  • Communicate complex analytical findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Take ownership of projects and contribute to delivering high-impact outcomes

  • Collaborate across teams, share insights, and influence strategic decisions

  • Build a network with program managers, alumni, senior leaders, and peers

  • Meet regularly with your department manager and program manager to receive personalized coaching and mentorship

What it takes:

  • Master's, MBA, or relevant advanced degree in Data & Analytics, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative or analytical field

  • Strong interest in machine learning, AI, and advanced analytics

  • Experience with programming languages such as Python or SQL, and familiarity with analytical or modeling tools

  • Demonstrated leadership potential, initiative, and ability to take ownership of work

  • Strong analytical, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, team-oriented environment

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher preferred

Special Factors:

  • This position will begin in 2027 and students graduating in December 2026, or Spring 2027 are encouraged to apply.

  • At least 18 paid days off, plus 10 federal holidays.

  • 77% of your medical costs are covered, compared to 68% by other financial services companies.

  • Unparalleled Health Savings Account (HSA) seed and match - 5x the amount as other contributing employers.

  • A $1500 FlexFund annual stipend for personally meaningful conveniences - 3x the average amount offered by other employers.
