Job description

Freese and Nichols is seeking an Applied Technology Leader to join our Technical Excellence Group. We welcome candidates fromany of our office locations. The Applied Technology Leader spearheads the research, development, and implementation of new and emerging technologies to enhance project delivery, operational efficiency, and design quality. This strategic leader collaborates with engineering teams, project managers, and clients to align technology solutions with business goals.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and execute a firm-wide technology strategy, including evaluating and integrating technology solutions for FNI's suite of services.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to project teams on the application of advanced software, including BIM/CAD, GIS, and 3D modeling.
  • Lead R&D efforts for applied technologies such as smart city integration, AI-driven analysis, reality capture, and digital twins.
  • Enhance engineering processes by integrating new software and workflows, focusing on automation and efficiency.
  • Act as a mentor and technical leader, coaching staff on new tools and methodologies to build and strengthen internal capabilities.
  • Facilitate communication and technical coordination with clients, consultants, and other stakeholders, effectively explaining complex technological concepts.
  • Establish and uphold technical standards, leading internal quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures for technology-driven project deliverables.
  • Collaborate on proposals and bids by providing innovative technical solutions that demonstrate the firm's leadership in applied technology.
  • Monitor the technical performance of complex projects and manage competing priorities, ensuring project delivery meets time, budget, and quality requirements.
  • Facilitate coordination with BT to ensure software purchases, licenses, security, and other policies are met in testing and deploying technologies. BT will be responsible software maintenance activities; the Applied Technology Leader will be responsible for establishing standards and processes associated with implementing those technologies for service delivery.
  • Coordination with Project Management Delivery Director: Facilitate coordination with the PDD and PM Steering Committee to ensure technologies are appropriate for
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related technical field is required, with a master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in civil engineering consulting, with a focus on technology leadership or innovation.
  • Experience with project management tools and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in civil engineering software and advanced technology, such as Civil 3D, Revit, GIS software, and data analytics tools.

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration
