Job description

The Radiology Tech Aide will assist with the delivery of patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Radiologic Technologist & the general supervision of the Site Manager or Technical Support Manager and the direction of a Radiologist. The primary responsibility will be focused on assisting in the performance of diagnostic & administrative tasks & procedures for which they have been trained. The Radiology Department Tech Aide must demonstrate the ability and willingness to participate in a Patient Care Team as a multi-skilled caregiver.
Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Greets patients in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Answers/directs calls and pages when required.
  • Processes patients accurately through the computer to ensure proper release of charges which includes acknowledging the patient in scheduling, activating the patient in admissions, updating registration fields as needed and entering an order in Meditech.
  • Makes necessary arrangements for outpatient ride assistance.
  • Performs technologist aide functions as needed i.e. screens patient, changes patient, assist with lifting/positioning of the patient in preparation for the MRI and cleans MRI scanner room.
  • Assists in the transport of patients from hospital floor to suite and arranges ambulance service for inpatients to our satellite locations when applicable.
  • Obtains accurate insurance information from the patient and/or referring physicians.
  • Mails transcribed reports to the patient and/or an additional physician as per patient request at the time of his/her scan.
  • Processes all incoming faxes to appropriate parties.
  • Sorts and distributes mail.
  • Contacts patients regarding their returned films.
  • Schedules/reschedules patient appointments.
  • Inpatient scheduling as needed.
  • Back-up on ACD as needed.
  • Prepares patient files with consent forms, copies insurance cards, screening paperwork, etc as needed.
  • Checks patient script for completeness.
  • Emails staff the radiologist daily coverage.
  • Checks Client Tell daily to ensure all canceled appointments are followed-up.
  • Documents all important patient correspondence i.e. operative notes, insurance updates and implants which is essential for patient safety and satisfaction.
  • Mails outside films back to the patient or the appropriate facility.
  • Processes film and/or CD request for patients.
  • Collects co-pays and ensures all patients without insurance pay at time of scan.
  • Archive retrieves all add-on studies from NSMIC for comparison studies.
  • Obtains verbal permission for use or disclosure of PHI.
  • Handles and disseminates requests for PHI.
  • Maintains a PHI log/file.
  • Monitors front office inventory levels and purchases office supplies as necessary.
  • Provides courteous interaction between the Support Department and referring hospitals/physicians offices.
  • Completes special projects as requested by management.
  • Reads and responds to all e-mails appropriately.
Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Screens patients, obtains pertinent clinical history before examination and fully informs patient about the exam.
  • Assists getting the patient changed for their exam.
  • Assists getting the patient in and out of the scan room.
  • Assists Technologist with positioning of patients.
  • Conducts proper discharge of patient. Confirms with the technologist that the patient leaves with the correct patient films and CD.
  • Ensures the stocking of scan rooms and linen closets.
  • Assists sedated, claustrophobic, elderly, pediatric and inpatients on the respective grounds up to and including being in the scan room during the examination.
ADA Requirements:
  • Work is moderately active
  • Must have normal vision and hearing with or without correction.
  • Must be able to lift and carry minimally 30 lbs.
  • Must have full use of arms and legs and be able to climb stairs.
Experience/Education:
  • Tech Aide must have excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Must maintain a professional manner and appearance.
  • Must have experience with ill patients, sedated patients as well as inpatients.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Must be self-motivated and have ability to work in healthcare setting
  • High school diploma or GED completion is required.
  • Basic knowledge of PC computer systems, ability to learn basic scheduling software and work with word processing applications.

Pay Range:
$17.00 - $22.88
The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
