FLSA STATUS:
Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:
Guide students in the proper and effective use of technology.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Maintain the computer lab as an attractive and inviting learning environment for children.
  • Supervise the daily operation of the computer lab.
  • Assist the Technology Department in tracking the location of technology within the building.
  • Educate students in regards to the proper and safe usage of the internet.
    • Research, social media, etc (age appropriateness)
  • Guide students through an online technology program.
  • Manage an online technology program for students.
  • Develop student technology skills and abilities.
  • Troubleshoot minor technology issues as needed.
  • Assist teachers and students with integrating technology within the classroom.
  • Assist teachers and students with educational activities.
  • Assist with planning and implementing building events as needed involving technology.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Observe the adopted daily building schedule, and perform all assigned duties.
  • Attend all assigned staff meetings, unless excused.
  • Serve as a role model for students in the practice of ethical principles, responsible behavior and democratic values.
  • Maintain an appropriate personal appearance.
  • Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district.
  • Keep on file any Board policies that relate to the library or library materials.
  • Engage in professional growth activities as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Director of Technology.
  • Maintain the library as an attractive and inviting center for learning, independent study and reading for pleasure.
  • Supervise the daily operation of the library.
  • Maintain check-out, catalog and inventory systems for library materials and equipment, as directed.
  • Instruct students in the use of the library.
  • Conduct book sharing sessions for students during assigned library periods.
  • Identify, in cooperation with the Principal, the High School Librarian and/or an advisory council, the materials and equipment needs of the media center.
  • Process requisitions for books, materials and equipment.
  • Prepare purchased items for circulation.
  • Make minor repairs to equipment and books as needed.
  • Supervise students who help in the library.
  • Assist teachers with the location of library materials that support their instructional activities.
  • Tape and distribute instructional television programs, as directed.
  • Supervise the operation of the library computers, as directed.
  • Assist with planning and implementing building/department events, such as Right-to-Read and visits from authors.
  • Remove obsolete and unusable materials from the collection.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma.
  • Post high school education preferred.
  • Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of libraries, children's literature and record keeping.
  • Well-developed organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with children in a positive manner.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff.
  • Basic knowledge of computer technology, or willingness to acquire and appropriately apply such knowledge.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
  • Computers/printers.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
  • Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather.
  • Potential interaction with unruly children.
  • Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, reach with hands and arms, stoop, crouch, and kneel.
  • Requirement to lift, carry, push and pull various items; for example, books and supplies, up to a maximum of 25 lbs.

  • Length of Employment: One Year Limited Contract
  • Salary: Based on current classified salary schedule with appropriate experience and training
