Operations & Technical Publications Specialist Job Summary:

Sparks Group is seeking an Operations & Technical Publications Specialist to join a defense manufacturer located in Springfield, VA. This role combines technical editing, content management, and office administration responsibilities in support of the company’s operations and engineering teams. The ideal candidate will possess strong writing and editing skills, experience managing technical content and documentation, and the ability to provide administrative support in a fast-paced environment.

Approximately 50% of the role will focus on technical editing and document quality assurance, 25% on content management and maintaining technical resources, and 25% on office management and administrative support. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity and will require you to work onsite in Springfield five (5) days a week.

Operations & Technical Publications Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Review technical documents for accuracy, clarity, grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, and consistency.
  • Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts to ensure technical accuracy and completeness of documentation.
  • Edit, proofread, and refine manuals, reports, specifications, training materials, and other technical publications.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with company standards, style guides, and security requirements.
  • Provide feedback and guidance to technical writers and contributors to improve document quality.
  • Develop and maintain document templates and editorial best practices.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of printed and digital materials.
  • Maintain and update technical content on company websites, SharePoint sites, and internal knowledge repositories.
  • Organize, manage, and archive technical documentation and records.
  • Coordinate document version control and ensure current materials are properly distributed and accessible.
  • Assist with content development and publication workflows.
  • Monitor content for consistency, usability, and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of training materials and internal communications.
  • Provide administrative support to the CEO, Operations Manager, and team members.
  • Coordinate meetings, schedules, conference room reservations, and visitor logistics.
  • Assist with office correspondence, reports, presentations, and general business communications.
  • Support procurement activities, supply inventory management, and office organization.

Operations & Technical Publications Specialist Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Technical Writing, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in technical editing, technical writing, content management, administrative support, or a related role.
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and document formatting skills.
  • Experience supporting engineering, scientific, government, or technical organizations.
  • Familiarity with HTML, XML, or web content management systems.
  • Experience with desktop publishing, multimedia production, or online documentation tools.
  • Understanding of document version control and records management practices.
  • Experience working with style guides and quality control processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat DC; familiarity with InDesign and Photoshop is a plus.
  • Knowledge of document management systems and content publishing platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, customer service, and administrative writing skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.

Pay Range: Hourly $24.00 to $38.00
