Job description


The Anesthesia Tech is responsible for performing various patient-care, safety, and technical duties to support anesthesia and nursing teams in surgical and procedural areas. The anesthesia technician responds to patient-specific needs including blood, medications, supply and equipment during the surgical procedure. This position performs patient identification procedures to ensure proper delivery of blood products and medications. This position operates surgical equipment under the direction of a licensed provider. The anesthesia tech ensures all ORs and pre/post rooms are adequately stocked with appropriate quantity of supplies and required equipment. The position ensures ORs, procedure and prepost rooms are cleaned and prepared for the next patient to ensure safe and efficient operation. The anesthesia technician cleans equipment and implements infection control policies to support the anesthesia practices in surgical and procedural areas. This position is an active member of the Anesthesia OR emergency response/code team and assures all emergency safety equipment is available and in working order. In specified pre-post areas Anesthesia Techs assist in patient intake with tasks that include obtaining height, weight, and vitals as well as attaching other appropriate monitoring devices.
Qualifications
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) with a minimum of one year of clinical/hospital experience Preferred. Applicant must be proficient in speaking and reading English. Computer skills required. Must be self-directed and able to make independent decisions. Experience working in a surgical area preferred. Experience with direct patient care, CNA or PCA preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Must be able to work collaboratively with others in a team setting. Have strong independent problem solving skills to respond to unpredictable situations, able to multitask, and be flexible with changes in the work flow. Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must Possess working skills and knowledge of Microsoft computer systems. Must be able to concentrate, pay attention to detail and remain focused for extended periods during the work shift. Requires adequate use of both hands and the ability to lift over 20 lbs., walk long distances and kneel/bend occasionally along with long periods of standing. BLS Certified or the ability to be obtained within six months of hire.
