Come to Apollo and join a community of extraordinary people who are committed to a culture of excellence and collaboration in everything that we do. We invest in our people for the long term and are committed to supporting their development at every stage of their career.

The Tax Professional will join Apollo's global Remuneration Tax team and will be primarily responsible for U.S. employment tax, benefits taxation, equity compensation, and international mobility matters across Apollo's U.S. operations. The role will focus on the tax implications arising from Apollo's compensation and benefits programs for employees and partners based in, or with a U.S. tax nexus.

The role will work closely with the Head of Remuneration Tax, the wider Remuneration Tax team, Human Capital, Payroll, Legal/Tax Counsel, and external advisors. The successful candidate will be the primary U.S. point of contact within the Remuneration Tax team and will collaborate on global projects with cross-border implications.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Advise on the U.S. federal and state tax implications of equity compensation plans, including RSUs, restricted shares, and other deferred compensation arrangements.

  • Support the tax analysis of new compensation plan designs and amendments, providing input on U.S. tax structuring considerations.

  • Build knowledge of carried interest structures and co-investment arrangements within Apollo, recognising that certain projects may touch upon these areas and require coordination with specialist tax teams.

  • Advise on the tax impacts of U.S.-touching mobility, including employees transferring between U.S. and international offices, as well as state-to-state relocations within the U.S.

  • Advise on New York State and New York City domicile and residency rules, including the statutory day-count tests, the permanent place of abode concept, and safe harbour provisions for individuals relocating internationally.

  • Advise on shadow payroll obligations for inbound assignees to the U.S. and outbound U.S. employees, working with external providers and internal payroll teams to ensure appropriate withholding and reporting standards are maintained.

  • Advise on U.S. tax implications of business travellers to and from U.S. offices, including state tax nexus creation, withholding thresholds, and travel tracking requirements.

  • Prepare or contribute to tax briefing materials and guidance for employees travelling to or relocating to/from U.S. locations.

  • Advise on U.S. federal, state, and local employment tax matters, including FICA, FUTA, state unemployment, and local payroll taxes across all Apollo U.S. entities.

  • Provide tax guidance on employee benefits, including the taxation of company cars, health and welfare benefits, and other perquisites.

  • Support the tax aspects of employee terminations, settlement agreements, and retirement arrangements, including the treatment of post-employment deferred items.

  • Manage relationships with U.S. based external advisors, including scoping engagements, monitoring fees, and ensuring quality of advice.

  • Act as the primary U.S. liaison between the Remuneration Tax team and internal stakeholders including Human Capital, Payroll, Legal/Tax Counsel, and Finance.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of Apollo's global remuneration tax policies and procedures as they relate to U.S. operations.

  • Support the adoption and use of technology tools, including AI, to generate efficiencies, enhance accuracy, and develop new ways of working within the Remuneration Tax function, in line with Apollo's broader technology and innovation strategy.

  • Stay current on U.S. federal, state, and local tax legislative and regulatory developments affecting employment tax, compensation, and international mobility.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 6+ years of experience in U.S. employment tax, executive compensation tax, or international mobility tax, gained in a Big 4 firm, law firm, or in-house at a financial services or alternative asset management firm.

  • Deep knowledge of U.S. federal and multi-state income tax withholding and reporting, including experience with equity compensation (RSUs, restricted shares) and deferred compensation.

  • Experience with international employee mobility tax, including expatriate/inpatriate tax, tax equalization, and shadow payroll.

  • Familiarity with New York State/City residency and domicile rules is highly desirable.

  • CPA or US Enrolled Agent preferred.

  • Experience in the alternative asset management or private equity industry is strongly preferred.

  • Working fluency with AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Microsoft Copilot.

  • Strong drive and initiative, with the ability to take ownership of projects and drive them to completion independently.

  • Ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders, colleagues, and external service providers across multiple jurisdictions and time zones.

  • Ability to quickly convert technical research and interpretation into practical, business-oriented solutions.

  • Energetic, forward-thinking, and creative, with high ethical standards.

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex tax concepts clearly and concisely to non-tax stakeholders.

  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
