Supply Chain Summer Intern – Garlock Houston, TX 

Position Overview: 

Garlock Houston is seeking a Supply Chain Summer Intern to support key procurement, inventory, and cost optimization initiatives within our manufacturing facility. This hands-on role will provide exposure to real-world supply chain operations, data analytics, and continuous improvement efforts. 

The intern will work closely with the Buyer and cross-functional teams to drive cost efficiency, improve inventory accuracy, and support strategic supply chain projects. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Spend Analysis & Cost Optimization 

  • Analyze plant spend categories including waste, lumber, and corrugated materials 

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend supplier or usage improvements 

  • Support development of dashboards and reports to track indirect material spending trends 

  • Conduct benchmarking and variance analysis to support purchasing decisions 

  • Inventory & Cycle Count Program Support 

  • Evaluate current cycle count practices and identify improvement opportunities 

  • Assist in analyzing inventory discrepancies and root causes 

  • Provide recommendations to enhance inventory accuracy and process discipline 

  • Support implementation of standardized cycle count procedures 

Purchasing & Procurement Support 

  • Review of purchasing requests for indirect materials 

  • Assist Procurement Specialist in supplier analysis, pricing comparisons, and PO tracking 

  • Support documentation and standardization of procurement processes 

  • Data Analytics & Continuous Improvement 

  • Gather and analyze data to identify inefficiencies 

  • Develop insights to support cost reduction initiatives 

  • Assist with supply chain optimization projects 

Learning & Development Opportunities 

  • Mentorship from Procurement Specialist, Operations Manager, and Plant Manager 

  • Exposure to manufacturing supply chain operations 

  • Experience with ERP systems and analytics tools 

Qualifications: 

  • Pursuing degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 

  • Proficiency in Excel (Power BI a plus) 

  • Strong communication skills 

  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented
