Job Summary:

The Department of Clinical Laboratories at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Supervisor / TH Associate Technical Director of Clinical Laboratory, Microbiology & Molecular Pathology. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide leadership to Virology, Serology, and Molecular Laboratory functions. 
  • Prepare and implement budget for the Virology and Molecular Pathology Laboratory. 
  • Review staffing needs and prepare work schedules.
  • Work closely with the Director and Hospital Infection Control Department to identify infectious disease outbreaks and to institute monitoring procedures.
  • Update LIS database as new revisions are implemented.
  • Review, update laboratory policy, and procedure manuals as necessary.
  • Ensure prompt and accurate performance and reporting of laboratory test results by laboratory staff.
  • Oversee the technical operation and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation.
  • Implement procedures and manage data in accordance with Performance Improvement goals.
  • Provide recommendations for improving products and services.
  • Ensure Laboratory compliance with Regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare administrative reports.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and perform other job related duties and responsibilities as business needs warrant and/or as needed.
  • Provide for the Quality Management system.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent in Medical Technology, Physical, or Biological Sciences.
  • New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of supervisory experience in Virology, Serology, Molecular Laboratory.
  • Master's Degree in Medical Technology, Physical, or Biological Sciences. 
  • ASCP Certification.

Variable Days; Variable Hours (Full-Time)

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
