Position: Summer Laborer
Reports to: Yard Supervisor
Shift: Monday-Friday 8am to 4pm
Pay: $16.58
What you'll be contributing:
The Summer Laborer performs general clean-up, labor responsibilities, and material handling duties. This position complies with all applicable safety policies and regulations.
  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Performs general clean-up duties and housekeeping of plant and plant grounds.
  • Assists in removing and installing refractory lining in the kiln, preheat tower, coolers, and other related plant equipment.
  • Assists with concrete pours, and mixing and pouring special castables.
  • Digs out and assists with repairs to underground air, water and gas lines.
  • Handles all chemicals for cement grinding and moves materials and equipment to job site.
  • Assists in screening grinding balls and recharging mill grinding ball load.
  • Performs emergency railroad track repairs.
  • Cleans railroad hopper and box cars
  • Observes all safety rules, wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and keeps work areas and equipment clean and orderly.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor

To succeed in this position, you will need:
  • High school graduation or equivalent is required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age, a high school graduate, and able to show proof of acceptance to an accredited 2- or 4-year college or technical institution.
  • Able to pass post offer drug screen and physical abilities test.
  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • Willingness to learn, training will be provided
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to walk over rough surfaces, climb ladders, climb stairs, bend, push, pull, work in awkward positions, perform work in confined spaces, and lift materials up to 100 lbs.

What to expect in a cement environment:
Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
