Job description

Responsible for performing labor tasks as assigned by the Crew Leader / Foreman. Responsible for assisting the driver with pre-trip inspection, safe truck loading, unloading, backing, and parking.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be ready and available to work, in uniform as either the job site or the office as required.
  • Agreeably implement tasks as assigned by the foreman
  • Ensures safe and legal and proper loading, unloading and driving of trucks
  • Maintain a positive work attitude all day every day
  • Complete all assigned tasks and daily work orders as directed
  • Co operate with other laborers on the crew for safe and cost-effective completion of all assignments.
  • Ensure that work meets or exceeds all company standards and is in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Use tools and equipment as trained and in accordance with manufacturers instructions.
  • Ask questions if unsure of any tasks, or if unsure how to use the equipment / tools.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Follow daily work orders from Forman / Crew Leader and confirm a thorough understanding of all assignments.
  • Understand and operate all equipment and tools safely and in accordance with manufacturers operating instructions. Wear all personal protective clothing and equipment as required by company and in accordance with JSLI & OSHA standards.
  • Assist driver with Truck Pre-Trip Inspection Check to identify potential light and back-up alarm failures.
  • Ensure truck bed is empty when others are machine loading the truck.
  • Assist in securing all tools, and materials on the trucks.
  • Ensure load is properly positioned into the truck bed (centered & 2/3 forward.)
  • Assist in tying down heavy equipment onto the truck / trailer floor including but not limited to mowers, trenchers, tractors, skid loaders etc...
  • Ensure DOUBLE wheel chocks are under the truck tires when Palletized materials are pushed/ pulled onto / off of the trucks.
  • Get out of the truck and help to visually spot the driver when backing up, using hand signals for the driver, and flags for any traffic.
  • Use traffic flags to stop traffic when driver is backing up, making u-turns, connecting trailer, etc.
  • Set wheel chocks at rear tires whenever truck is parked
  • Set out orange safety-zone cones behind truck to denote work area for crew.
  • Reports vehicle, equipment, tool maintenance and repair needs to the forman
  • Direct the clients to discuss any issues with the Foreman / Crew Leader
  • Report damaged, broken, or missing equipment, tools, supplies or materials to the Foreman.
  • Ensure that all assigned vehicles, trailers, equipment and tools are inspected, cleaned and secured at the end of each workday. Dismiss assigned crewmembers upon completion of daily assigned work responsibilities.
