Job Title: Construction Superintendent – Life Sciences Projects

Job Description

The Construction Superintendent leads all on-site activities for commercial building projects from initial mobilization through final closeout. This role serves as the primary field leader, accountable for site safety, schedule adherence, quality control, subcontractor management, and overall field operations. The Superintendent collaborates closely with Project Managers, owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and trade partners to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and in accordance with plans, specifications, and quality expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct daily field operations and construction activities for commercial building projects from mobilization through project closeout.
  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for Project Managers, owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and trade partners.
  • Manage and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to ensure efficient and safe execution of work.
  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules, including detailed three-week look-ahead plans, to keep work on track.
  • Drive adherence to project milestones and ensure project completion on schedule and within defined quality standards.
  • Lead site safety initiatives and ensure full compliance with OSHA requirements and company safety policies.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture on site, including conducting safety meetings and inspections.
  • Implement and oversee QA/QC procedures to ensure work meets or exceeds project specifications and industry standards.
  • Coordinate all required inspections and testing with relevant authorities, consultants, and trade partners.
  • Manage project closeout activities, including punch lists, commissioning support, and turnover documentation.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, logs, and records of site activities and progress.
  • Support project cost control efforts by monitoring field productivity, identifying potential issues, and communicating impacts to the project team.
  • Use construction management software and tools (such as Procore, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, and Primavera) to track progress, documentation, and scheduling.
  • Oversee field logistics, including site access, deliveries, staging, and material handling to maintain an organized and efficient jobsite.
  • Interpret and review blueprints, drawings, and specifications to plan and coordinate field activities.
  • Collaborate with project leadership to ensure alignment on project goals, sequencing, and resource allocation.
  • Support the full project lifecycle from preconstruction input through final closeout and turnover.
  • Foster a collaborative, professional environment with trade partners and the project team to resolve issues quickly and maintain project momentum.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5+ years of commercial construction experience.
  • Proven experience serving as a Construction Superintendent on commercial projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with project scheduling and maintaining three-week look-ahead schedules.
  • Strong background in subcontractor management and coordination of multiple trade partners.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Experience in life sciences, hospital, healthcare, or other technical facility projects.
  • Hands-on experience with commercial and industrial construction environments.
  • OSHA 10 certification at a minimum.
  • Ability to lead site safety initiatives and ensure OSHA compliance.
  • Experience with construction management and project management practices in a field environment.
  • Proven ability to manage field operations from ground-up construction through project completion.
  • Strong field management skills, including supervision of subcontractors and site personnel.
  • Ability to implement QA/QC procedures and maintain high-quality standards on site.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Experience working with Procore or similar construction management platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project for scheduling and progress tracking.
  • Experience using Bluebeam for document review and markup.
  • Familiarity with BIM tools and workflows in a construction environment.
  • Experience with Primavera scheduling software.
  • Experience in project coordination, including inspections, testing, and closeout activities.
  • Knowledge of contract management, budgeting, and cost control fundamentals.
  • Exposure to high-quality commercial construction projects in regional markets such as NJ and PA.
  • Desire to gain hands-on exposure to the full project lifecycle, from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Interest in building strong foundational skills in cost control, contracts, and scheduling.
