Job description

Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, providing natural gas and/or electricity to 6.8 million of the state’s 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. Consumers Energy knows job number one is to keep the lights on for customers. We are committed to delivering reliable, clean, and affordable energy to our customers 24/7.

Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify). 

GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Sourcing Manager leads complex, high-value sourcing initiatives and category strategies, driving cost optimization, risk mitigation, and supplier performance across key spend areas.
This role operates with a high degree of autonomy, bridging execution and strategy by translating business priorities into sourcing approaches and influencing cross-functional stakeholders. This position owns more complex categories and leads broader cross-functional initiatives. The Senior Sourcing Manager serves as a strategic partner to business leaders and plays a key role in strengthening supplier relationships, improving procurement processes, and delivering measurable business value.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead sourcing initiatives for moderately complex to complex categories, including the development of sourcing strategies aligned with business objectives; conduct spend analysis, market benchmarking, and supplier evaluations to identify cost savings and value opportunities; use data to support sourcing strategies, supplier optimization, and performance improvements.
• Execute RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs with increasing complexity, driving cost, quality, and performance improvements.
• Support the development and evolution of category strategies with a longer-term, strategic focus.
• Lead supplier negotiations for higher-value and more complex agreements, including terms, pricing, and risk mitigation; manage supplier relationships for key suppliers, addressing performance issues and driving continuous improvement.
• Oversee contract execution and lifecycle management to ensure compliance, performance, and value realization; manage supplier relationships for key suppliers, addressing performance issues and driving continuous improvement.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders (Finance, Legal, Risk, Business Units) to align sourcing strategies and business outcomes; influence decision-making through data-driven insights, market intelligence, and sourcing expertise; provide guidance and recommendations to business leaders on sourcing approaches and supplier selection.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior sourcing professionals; share best practices and contribute to the development of sourcing capabilities within the team; participate in cross-functional initiatives to improve procurement processes and outcomes.
• Support procurement frameworks, policies, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance sourcing effectiveness; ensure compliance with procurement policies, legal requirements, and risk management standards.
• Other duties as assigned or as may be necessary.
