Job description

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Student assistants work closely with staff of The Claremont College in serving it's students, faculty and staff. They practice excellent customer service, learn about SDRC policies and resources, and help run the testing center. Student assistants practice and maintain confidentiality of those who utilize the SDRC and all of the information provided to them. They should provide a welcoming presence and professionalism.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide in-person and telephone assistance at all service points with a high level of customer service.

  • Identify patron needs and devise strategies for meeting those needs, including referring the patron to a SDRC supervisor when appropriate.

  • Provide information about events, workshops, student groups related to Disability and other resources available to them.

  • Assist students with the use of WiFi, computer login, multi-function printers, and assistive technology.

  • Participate in office maintenance by maintaining cleanliness of kitchenette, sanitizing testing rooms before and after each use, putting away all confidential information at the end of the day.

  • Maintain and manage testing schedule by scheduling exams, filing them accordingly, sending email confirmations and reminders along with helping student fill out the request forms.

  • Serving a test proctor by managing students during exams and only allowing what professor has permitted into the testing rooms.

  • Serving as a scribe to help students with disabilities writing out their exams without influencing the exam under any circumstances.

  • Serving as a reader by reading exams aloud to student with disabilities during their exams.

  • Serving as a guide to students who have limited vision while using the SDRC.

  • Providing professional communication skills with faculty when obtaining exam details or returning exams to the faculty.

  • Read all communication from SDRC and remain current on SDRC policies and procedures.

  • Arrive on time for scheduled shifts and pick up additional shifts as needed.

  • Attend student worker program meetings/socials and additional training sessions as needed or required.

  • Adhere to the strict confidentiality policies of the SDRC.

  • Record usage statistics and gather additional data as requested.

  • Contribute to one-time and continuing data-gathering, analysis, and assessment projects.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled and attending one ofThe Claremont Colleges.

Required Knowledge and Critical Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Strong customer service focus.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

  • Ability to learn and perform new tasks quickly and effectively.

  • Punctuality, dependability, and flexibility.

  • Attention to detail.

Preferred Knowledge and Critical Skills:

  • Familiarity with events, facilities, collections, services, and policies at The Claremont Colleges Library, The Claremont Colleges, and The Claremont Colleges Services.

Work Schedule:

Students average 8-15 hours weekly, including evenings and weekends. Shifts may be available during breaks from classes on request.

COMPENSATION

Pay: $16.90 per hour.
