Job description
Student Accessibility Services (SAS) at Brown University is responsible for the provision of disability services for all students in the University's undergraduate, graduate, and medical programs. SAS partners closely with students to identify and implement accommodations that allow for their full participation in Brown's rigorous academic and vibrant university community. As the Director of Student Accessibility Services (SAS) within the Division of Campus Life, Brown's leader in this highly visible role is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the student experience are accessible, equitable, and inclusive.
The Director provides leadership and vision for a broadly collaborative department that serves a diverse student population of over 10,000 students and collaborates with hundreds of faculty and staff regarding curricular and environmental accessibility. The Director must be exceedingly well-versed in national trends, Section 504, the ADA, and other federal and state requirements pertaining to student accessibility.
A primary focus of this role is the modernization of SAS data management and systems administration. The Director oversees the implementation and maintenance of updated data management tools to improve data integrity and streamline the interactive process, thereby enhancing the student experience. By centralizing data systems and utilizing quantitative metrics, the Director is responsible for reducing delays between initial requests and final determinations, ensuring timely care and mitigating institutional risk. Through careful stewardship of SAS resources and staff, the Director leads continuous improvement efforts and develops evidence-based policies and protocols that document the University's excellence in meeting regulatory and compliance obligations.

- Deep knowledge of Section 504, the ADA, and the Fair Housing Act as well as pertinent federal, state, and local laws.
- Proven facility with administrative data collection, summation, and reporting. Experience managing disability-specific database systems and familiarity with an array of assistive technologies.
- Strong policy-related expertise, including the ability to draft, interpret, and implement complex institutional policies.
- Must demonstrate the skill to translate federal/state regulations into clear, actionable University protocols and provide high-level interpretation for faculty and senior leadership.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to exercise a high degree of discretion, diplomacy, and sophisticated problem-solving.
- Demonstrated commitment to success in a vibrant multicultural environment with a critical understanding of social justice issues in both student and workplace settings.
