Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure (Wood E&IS) is recruiting a Project Manager for our Civil Engineering team in our Durham or Wilmington, NC office.ย  This individual will be part of our Infrastructure Design Service Line that supports our industrial, municipal and NCDOT clientele.ย  The position relies heavily on a combination of leadership and technical qualities as you lead teams to successful execution of work.ย  As Project Manager, you will set the bar of excellence for delivering a quality project on time and within budget.ย  Wood has a comprehensive training and certification program for Project Managers, as well as mentoring and cross collaboration opportunities.ย  You can be a full time Project Manager, or blend your time with technical work. Wood is flexible and willing to work with you to find your ideal position

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in team mentoring and be mentored
  • Meet with established clients to evaluate project scopes and general project approaches
  • Collaborate with various Wood disciplines to prepare technical scope and corresponding fees
  • Provide sub-contractor quotes to augment Wood staff, as required, to fulfill client needs
  • Serve as a proposal manager for multi-disciplined projects.
  • Learn and adopt Wood's process for proposal approvals prior to sending to client
  • Monitor budgets, project milestones, and design efficacy
  • Coordinate staffing needs with team schedulers
  • Provide quality control of documents per Wood policy and procedures
  • Motivate teams to work through design concerns and manage internal conflict
  • Negotiate proper change orders with client
  • Manage cash flow on outstanding invoices
  • Proactively monitor project metrics indicating project health
  • Work with operations managers regarding project related concerns and difficult conversations
  • Initiate team coordination meetings to promote successful project completion
  • Complete pre-bill and invoice review to ensure consistency with contract requirements
  • Remain a technical liaison for all civil work
  • Perform Independent Technical Review, on work performed by others, as a part of our Quality Control program
  • Enforce corporate/office health and safety procedures
Skills / Qualifications

The individual is expected to have:

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering
  • 8-15+ years of professional engineering experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in North Carolina
  • Demonstrated leadership in a team atmosphere
  • Ability to promote corporate/office standards for safety and quality of work
  • Ability to recognize a project's critical path and continually plan for project success
  • Experience preparing work scopes and draft proposals
  • Take ownership of key performance indicators civil engineering designs completed by the team as the Engineer of Record
  • Strong written/oral communication skills and the ability to plan for team success
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Working knowledge of common Civil Engineering software tools (e.g. AutoCAD, Civil 3D, SWMM, HEC-RAS, EPANET 2), although proficiency is not required
  • Familiarity with MicroStation and In Roads, although proficiency is not required
