Job Summary
Provides specialized strength conditioning and instruction on the proper methods of weight training, with the primary focus on injury prevention and maximizing competitive performance to Division I basketball and other assigned team sports. . Assists with the operations of the program, by organizing and scheduling strength and conditioning workouts, ensures facilities are mainlined and enforces all department policies and practices. Works with sport coaches, assists sports medicine staff and provides solutions related to overall student athlete wellness. Attends basketball practices, home basketball games, and travels as needed. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferably in exercise science, kinesiology, or related field.
  • 1 year experience in weight room coaching, including as a GA, intern or student worker.
  • At least one of the following certifications: Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS); Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC).
  • Ability to travel and work evening and weekend hours as required.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to establish and maintain driver eligibility under CSU's Driving and Motor Vehicle Policy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in exercise science or related field.
  • Two (2) years of direct oversight of collegiate men's and/or women's basketball.
  • USA Weightlifting Certification (USAW).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of principles of athletic strength and conditioning programming, facilities & equipment.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to NCAA rules.
  • Knowledge of athletic injury prevention and treatment protocols.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality on a wide range of issues.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Organizational skills and ability to coordinate and negotiate travel arrangements, special programs, and events.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems and deal effectively with short notice change and competing priorities. Ability to compile data and information and prepare reports.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
