Sommelier, Wisconsin Room
Work Mode: Onsite

Opportunity
The Sommelier supports the wine program and service standards. This casual role primarily focuses on providing professional wine service and sales assistance to guests, as well as assisting the Senior Sommelier with operational tasks.
Specific Responsibilities:
Wine Service and Guest Interaction
The Sommelier works the Restaurant floors at both venues to facilitate professional wine service:
  • Providing professional wine sales assistance.
  • Providing professional wine service, including re-pours.
  • Ensuring proper glassware is used and providing labels upon request.
  • Communicating daily with the Restaurant Manager and/or Dining Supervisor to review reservations taken and learn about any upcoming reservation regarding wine.
  • Processing sales through POS and properly processing payments.

Operational Support and Maintenance
The Sommelier assists in the day-to-day operations and upkeep of the wine program:
  • Assisting in maintaining accurate inventory.
  • Assisting the Senior Sommelier in putting away purchased wine deliveries.
  • Assisting the Senior Sommelier with printing, writing, and making changes to wine lists as needed.
  • Helping maintain wine cellars for cleanliness, temperature, lighting, etc..
  • Assisting in ensuring all necessary equipment is in stock and in proper order.

Education and Training
  • The Sommelier supports the educational mission of the wine program.
  • Attending and occasionally holding daily briefings with the Restaurant FOH staff before the start of operation.
  • Participating in the Wine Academy classes and demonstrations for Food & Beverage staff to ensure high-quality service.
  • Assisting staff in one or all the following duties during idle times: back waiter, hosting, reservationist, bus, bar service, and polishing.

This is a full-time position with weekend availability required. Hours vary between 2:00 pm - 11:00 pm.
Skills/Requirements
  • A degree in restaurant/hotel management and/or experience in a food and beverage position in an upscale Hotel/Restaurant is preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience selling fine wine is beneficial.
  • Experience as a server or bartender is required.
  • Accreditation from Court of Master Sommeliers or similar program is required.
  • An adequate level of skill with the use of common computer systems, including all Office products.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.
The hourly range for this position is $21.30 - $31.90. The specific hourly rate offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including candidate's education and work location.
