The Design Manager is responsible for overseeing and guiding the creative design process to ensure the delivery of innovative and high-quality design solutions. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, managing design projects from conception to completion and maintaining the company's design standards to enhance brand identity and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the design team, providing direction, mentorship and support to foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Oversee the development and execution of design projects, ensuring they align with the company's strategic goals and brand guidelines.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to understand design requirements and translate them into effective design solutions.
  • Evaluate and improve design processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and creativity within the team.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, tools and technologies to ensure the company remains at the forefront of design innovation.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets and resources to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of design projects.
  • Conduct regular design reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure high-quality outputs.
  • Represent the design team in meetings and presentations, effectively communicating design concepts and strategies to stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the design team to enhance skills and knowledge.

Education
Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in design management, preferably within the commercial furniture or interior design industry.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading design projects from concept to completion.
  • Experience in managing and mentoring design teams to achieve project goals.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to design and construction.

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide a team of designers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with clients, stakeholders and team members.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit and CET.
  • Experience with specifying software such as CAP 2020 or equivalent.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Knowledge of sustainable design practices and the ability to incorporate them into projects.
  • Contract furniture industry knowledge, required.
  • Working knowledge of Herman Miller and/or Knoll, preferred.
