Job description

Head of Product Engineering - Commercial Pharma Data Architecture & Management

Roche Digital Technology (RDT) is where innovation meets purpose. As a global team at the heart of Roche, we are a community of business-minded technologists committed to help shape tomorrow's digital future of healthcare. Our mission is to power Roche through cutting-edge digital technologies, harnessing the potential of artificial intelligence, data, and scalable tech innovations. Driven by purpose and passion, we're building a future where digital is a core strength across all of Roche, enabling smarter ways of working, unlocking human potential, and driving breakthroughs that truly matter for millions of patients around the world.

The Opportunity

As the Head of Product Engineering for Commercial Pharma Data Architecture/Management, you are the visionary architect of the data engine powering our global Pharma Commercial technology. You will lead the end-to-end lifecycle of a best-in-class data ecosystem-transforming complex scientific and business needs into scalable, AI-ready solutions.

You will navigate a dual-landscape: architecting Global data standards while driving high-touch execution for the US Market (Genentech). This includes data strategies across Commercial, Medical, and Government Affairs, ensuring our infrastructure supports complex US payer landscapes and reimbursement models.

Your mission is to bridge the gap between RDT and Commercial operations, ensuring that our data architecture-from Master Data Management (MDM) to omnichannel insights-accelerates the delivery of life-changing medicines to patients.

You aren't just managing data; you are treating data as a strategic asset to revolutionize how we engage with the healthcare ecosystem. Lead the charge in building the most sophisticated data foundation in the pharmaceutical industry.

The actual title will be Head of Product Commercial Pharma Data Architecture and Management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Product Vision: Set the multi-year roadmap for a complex global data portfolio. Proactively integrate Generative AI and ML capabilities to move from descriptive data to predictive commercial engines.

  • Commercial Alignment: Sync strategic Pharma Commercial data initiatives with high-stakes business milestones, including global product launches, market access strategies, and field force effectiveness.

  • Platform Excellence: Oversee the evolution of our modern data stack (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks) and MDM platforms, ensuring a "Single Source of Truth" that is globally scalable and locally relevant. Champion Data-as-a-Product, moving beyond raw tables to a robust Semantic Layer. You will ensure that complex data is abstracted into business-friendly entities, allowing non-technical stakeholders to self-serve insights with absolute consistency across the enterprise.

  • Insights-to-Action: Partner with Analytics & Insights teams to co-create frameworks for Next Best Action (NBA) engines and real-time omnichannel orchestration.

  • Ecosystem Orchestration: Lead a diverse network of internal engineering teams, SaaS partners, and data providers (IQVIA, Symphony) through robust API strategies and integrated platform architectures.

  • Governance & Compliance: Ensure all data products adhere to GxP, FAIR principles, and GDPR standards without sacrificing the agility required for rapid innovation.

  • ROI Ownership: Define and own the metrics that connect data quality and architecture performance to tangible business outcomes and ROI.

  • People Leadership: Mentor and grow a high-performing team of Product Managers and Engineers, fostering a culture of customer-centricity, data-informed decision-making, and continuous learning.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or Business (MBA preferred).

  • 15+ years in Product Management or Business Analysis, with at least 10 years leading multidisciplinary technical teams.

  • 5+ years in BioPharma or regulated HealthTech, with expert-level knowledge of industry domains (HCP/HCO Master Data, IQVIA/Symphony feeds, Specialty Pharmacy data).

  • Deeply familiar with modern software architecture (Microservices, Cloud, APIs) and the application of Data Science/AI in a commercial context.

  • Deep, battle-tested Pharma Commercial experience is non-negotiable. You understand the nuances of the patient journey, prescriber dynamics, and the critical data dependencies required to launch and sustained market leadership in a regulated environment.

  • A master communicator who can align scientists, engineers, and senior executives toward a unified strategic goal.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $200,100 - $371,500. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
