What is a software sales representative?

A software sales representative is a front-line team member who facilitates software and computer sales and provides technical support for customers. As a software sales representative, your job duties include answering questions for clients before and after purchase and providing a demonstration of the software to ensure it fits each client’s needs. You spend a majority of your time on the phone with customers to land a sale and maintain client happiness. While some experience in sales is beneficial to have for this job, it’s not strictly required. Qualifications for this career include excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate technical information to potential customers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a software sales representative?

To thrive as a Software Sales Representative, you need strong sales acumen, in-depth product knowledge, and typically a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field. Familiarity with CRM systems like Salesforce, sales automation tools, and basic technical understanding of software solutions are commonly required. Outstanding communication, active listening, and relationship-building skills help you connect with clients and close deals effectively. These competencies are crucial for understanding customer needs, navigating complex sales cycles, and consistently achieving sales targets.

How do software sales representatives typically collaborate with technical teams during the sales process?

Software Sales Representatives often work closely with technical teams such as solutions engineers or product specialists to ensure client requirements are fully understood and addressed. During the sales process, representatives coordinate product demonstrations, gather technical feedback, and relay customer needs to the development team. This collaboration helps tailor solutions and respond effectively to technical questions or concerns from prospective clients. Strong communication and teamwork are essential to bridge the gap between customer expectations and technical capabilities.

Sales Executive

AIAEC LLC

Phoenix, AZ • On-site

Full-time

Re-posted 27 days ago

Job description

Description:

AIAEC builds technology for the people who design, develop, and build the world. Founded in Arizona, the company helps architects, engineers, developers, construction teams, and real estate professionals get clear zoning and regulatory answers faster, reducing time spent on manual research and avoiding costly delays. Our first product, ChatAEC, is a conversational AI built for development professionals. It helps teams understand zoning, land use, and development requirements by retrieving and interpreting jurisdiction-specific regulations for a given site.

Role Overview

We are seeking a driven Sales Executive to join our team as an inside and outside-sales representative. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying, engaging, and closing deals with professionals in the Real Estate, Commercial/Residential Construction, Architecture, Engineering, and Planning sectors. Your primary mission will be to demonstrate how ChatAEC transforms complex regulatory research into a fast, efficient, and actionable workflow.

This role requires a hunter mentality, a deep understanding of software sales (SaaS), and the ability to articulate value to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. While not mandatory, experience working with teams that navigate zoning, land use, and development requirements is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prospecting & Lead Generation: Identify and target key decision-makers within target industries (Real Estate, Construction, AEC firms) through outbound calls, emails, social selling, and networking events.
  • Inside & Outside Sales: Manage the full sales cycle from initial contact to close. Conduct virtual product demonstrations (inside) and attend industry events or conduct on-site meetings (outside) as needed.
  • Consultative Selling: Understand the unique pain points of architects, developers, and planners—such as manual research, fragmented ordinances, and costly delays—and position ChatAEC as the solution.
  • Value Communication: Articulate the ROI of ChatAEC, highlighting its ability to cut due diligence from weeks to minutes and eliminate rework caused by missed requirements.
  • Pipeline Management: Maintain accurate records of all sales activities and customer information in CRM software. Provide regular forecasts and updates to leadership.
  • Market Feedback: Relay customer and market insights to the product and marketing teams to help refine our messaging and product roadmap
Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience

  • Sales Experience: 5 years preferred.
  • Software Sales: Proven track record of selling software or SaaS solutions, preferably within the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction).
  • Industry Knowledge (Preferred): Experience working with real estate teams, commercial/residential construction building professionals, or any role that requires understanding of zoning, land use, and development requirements.
  • Skills: Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment.

Tech Savvy: Comfortable using CRM tools, video conferencing platforms, and demonstrating technical products
