What does a software development manager do?

As a software development manager, your primary responsibilities are to oversee software development teams and to act as a liaison between your teams and senior management. You hire and train new staff, manage and evaluate existing developers, provide guidance on the design and implementation of new software applications, and ensure that projects stay on schedule and within budget. You collaborate with upper-level management and your developers to make sure that new and existing software applications meet business objectives.

What does a software development manager do?

A Software Development Manager oversees teams of software engineers to ensure successful planning, development, and delivery of software projects. They coordinate project timelines, allocate resources, and facilitate communication between team members and stakeholders. Additionally, they mentor developers, set technical standards, and help align software initiatives with business objectives. Their role balances technical expertise with leadership and project management responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a software development manager?

To thrive as a Software Development Manager, you need a solid background in software engineering, leadership experience, and usually a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with project management tools (like Jira or Trello), version control systems (such as Git), and sometimes certifications like PMP or Scrum Master are highly beneficial. Exceptional communication, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to motivate and mentor teams are critical soft skills. These competencies ensure successful project delivery, foster team development, and align technical efforts with business goals.

How does a software development manager typically balance technical leadership with people management responsibilities?

Effective delegation, setting clear priorities, and maintaining open communication with both developers and stakeholders are key to managing these dual responsibilities. Many managers also work closely with product managers, QA, and other departments to ensure alignment across projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the sales pipeline by prospecting, qualifying, running discovery calls, and closing partnerships with US-based ecommerce brands.

  • Lead prospects from initial contact to signed agreement using templates, AI tools, and proposal playbook to deliver proposals quickly.

  • Build and formalize referral agreements with US-based software and SaaS companies serving ecommerce brands to generate inbound leads.

Job description

FJ Solutions is looking for a Business Development Manager to own our sales motion from day one — building the pipeline, closing partnerships, and growing alongside the agency.

This is a ground-floor role. You’ll work directly with our CEO, help define how FJS acquires new clients, and earn real commission on every partner you bring in. If you want to build something — not just execute a playbook someone else wrote — this is the role.

The Opportunity

We’re at an inflection point. Our results are strong, our team is solid, and we have a clear path to $1M in revenue this year. What we need is someone who can turn conversations into signed partnerships — and help us build the engine to keep the pipeline full.

You’ll be the first dedicated sales hire at FJS. That means ownership, direct CEO access, and commission that compounds as you close.

The math on commission: You earn 20% of each partner’s monthly fee for 12 months after signing. Close a $5K/month partner and that’s $12,000 in commission from that single deal over the year. Close three and the upside is real.

What You’ll Help Us With
  • Own the pipeline. Build and manage a qualified pipeline of US-based ecommerce brands looking for a full-service growth partner. You’ll prospect, qualify, run discovery calls, and close.
  • Close new partnerships. Lead prospects from first contact to signed agreement. You’ll use FJS templates, AI tools, and our proposal playbook to turn around proposals in under 2 hours.
  • Build the referral network. Identify US-based software and SaaS companies that serve ecommerce brands but don’t offer marketing or web services — and formalize referral agreements that generate consistent inbound leads.
  • Run the weekly sales cadence. Own the pipeline review, track conversion by stage, and report directly to the CEO on what’s moving and what’s stuck.
  • Close deals that actually work. Every new partner is confirmed against capacity and profitability before signing. You’ll work with our Operations Manager to make sure each deal is structured to deliver real margin — not just revenue.
What We’re Looking For
  • 3+ years in B2B services sales — agency, SaaS, or professional services
  • Native English speaker; bilingual Spanish a strong plus
  • Based in Miami or able to meet in person regularly
  • Comfortable selling to founders, CMOs, and marketing directors
  • Strong written and verbal communication — you’ll write proposals, not just pitch them
  • Self-starter who thrives without a corporate structure
  • Bonus: familiarity with Shopify, Klaviyo, Meta or Google Ads, or digital marketing in general
Why Join FJ Solutions ?

Commission that compounds. You earn 20% of each partner’s monthly fee for 12 full months. The more you close, the more you earn — and the income stacks deal by deal.

Build from the ground up. You’ll shape the sales process at a growing agency with real results and real clients. No inherited bureaucracy.

Direct CEO access. You’ll work side by side with Francisco Sanz, who’s been running this agency since 1998. Decisions happen fast.

A team that delivers. You’ll be selling outcomes that exist — case studies, real numbers, proven partners. No overpromising required.
