This position will be part the Order Management & Risk Technology team at Schwab. Our organization implements trading capabilities and risk management capabilities for digital assets, equities, options, futures, and forex for Schwab’s active trader client base at scale of 5+ million trades per day, along with providing an efficient and flexible experience for day-to-day operations, including trading operations and margin associates.
The Senior Specialist Developer will work within an Agile development team to define, deliver, and manage the lifecycle of software solutions. This role is dedicated to collaboratively understanding business needs and implementing robust technical solutions that not only meet business objectives but are also reusable, scalable, and secure. They improve delivery outcomes through seamless cross-domain partnership and collaboration with the technology and product teams.
Ideal candidates will be self-motivated with a passion for resolving technical issues quickly and in line with platform strategy and vision. They must have effective time management skills and the ability to prioritize, multitask, and learn new technologies quickly. The ability to work collaboratively across organizations and geographic locations is crucial and good written and verbal communications skills are a must.

  • Performs product design & troubleshooting exercises of extremely high complexity which require extensive research and analysis.
  • Works closely with and supports developers from other teams that integrate with the
  • Leads system design and specification development, program logic and flow-charting, testing, debugging, and documentation.Will be responsible for making complex design choices to be used by the development teams.
  • Leads moderate to highly complex programming tasks, providing review of various development tasks and documentation. Provides analysis of problems and recommends solutions.
  • A key contributor in client/technology interactions in the development of technology solutions
  • Will interface with Enterprise Architecture & Infrastructure teams on strategic designs and initiatives.
  • Leads the troubleshooting of complex problems in development and production environments, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
  • Mentors more junior engineers/developers, serves as an SME on their system of expertise and directs the work and assigns development tasks of junior engineers/developers.
What you have

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years software development experience in Java, J2EE and web/internet based programming experience (both client and server side)
  • 5+ Experience with OOA/OOD, distributed systems/software, real time processing, relational database systems, messaging systems
  • Experience with an integrated development environment (IDE) preferably IntelliJ
  • Experience in developing APIs and Frameworks
  • Experience with concurrency & multi-threading
  • Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms and design patterns (GoF)
  • Experience with source code repository (e.g. bitbucket, github)
  • Experience using AI to aid software development lifecycle
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to think of the big picture.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in financial services or trading
  • Experience with Spring Boot, Spring Batch and Spring Cloud Config
  • Experience with scaling, Java Garbage Collection, and performance tuning preferred
  • Experience with messaging platforms (e.g. Kafka, RabbitMQ, IBM MQ, Solace, FTL, Red Panda)
  • Experience with observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)
  • Experience with Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) and/or Oracle Coherence
  • Exposure to containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Comfort level with the Atlassian toolset (Jira, Confluence, Bamboo)
  • Contributes ideas for new approaches or technologies within a defined scope
