What is a silent auction?

A silent auction is a fundraising event where items or services are displayed for attendees to bid on anonymously, usually by writing their bid on a sheet of paper or entering it into a digital system. Unlike traditional auctions with an auctioneer, there is no verbal bidding; participants can review and increase their bids until the auction closes. The highest bidder at the end wins the item and typically pays the amount they bid, with proceeds often supporting a charitable cause. Silent auctions are popular at galas, charity events, and community fundraisers because they encourage friendly competition and can raise significant funds.
