How does a Shared Service Manager typically collaborate with other departments to ensure efficient service delivery?

A Shared Service Manager regularly partners with various business units, such as HR, finance, and IT, to understand their needs and tailor services accordingly. This collaboration often involves facilitating cross-departmental meetings, setting clear service level agreements, and implementing process improvements based on stakeholder feedback. By maintaining open communication channels and fostering a customer-centric mindset within the shared services team, the manager ensures that services are delivered efficiently and consistently across the organization.

Job description

Description

Lead the accounting engine behind a complex manufacturing business.

MetalTek International is seeking a hands-on Manager, Accounting & Shared Services to lead our corporate Shared Services team in Waukesha, WI. This is a key accounting leadership role responsible for payroll, accounts payable, cash application, expense reporting, general accounting, account reconciliations, accruals, month-end close support, financial controls, and service delivery across MetalTek's four manufacturing divisions.

This role is built for a practical, no-nonsense business leader who knows how to lead people, improve processes, solve problems, and create accountability. The right person will bring strong accounting knowledge, manufacturing business sense, and the ability to work directly with Controllers, Finance leaders, Operations, HR, and business stakeholders to ensure accurate, timely, and dependable financial execution.

As the Manager, Accounting & Shared Services, you will lead and develop a team responsible for critical corporate accounting and shared services activities. You will set expectations, manage priorities, remove roadblocks, strengthen controls, improve service levels, and ensure deadlines are met. This role will also support ERP improvements, finance transformation initiatives, process standardization, reporting accuracy, and continuous improvement across people, processes, systems, and technology.

This is not a passive management role. We are looking for a leader who is willing to dig into the details, understand the work, coach the team, address issues directly, and help build a stronger finance function for the future.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the corporate Shared Services team supporting payroll, accounts payable, cash application, expense reporting, general accounting, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close activities.
  • Manage, coach, and develop employees while creating clear expectations, accountability, and follow-through.
  • Partner with divisional Controllers, Finance leadership, HR, Operations, and business leaders to support accurate and timely financial execution.
  • Ensure balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, reporting support, and close-related activities are completed accurately and on time.
  • Strengthen internal controls, standard work, documentation, service levels, and compliance across accounting and shared services processes.
  • Identify and resolve accounting, payroll, AP, cash application, and service delivery issues in a practical and timely manner.
  • Use financial data, ERP systems, Excel, and reporting tools to provide accurate information, analysis, and business support.
  • Drive continuous improvement, process standardization, automation, and finance transformation initiatives.
  • Support ERP implementation, ERP upgrade, system optimization, and technology improvement projects.
  • Build strong working relationships across a multi-site manufacturing organization.

Requirements

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • 5+ years of accounting leadership, accounting management, shared services management, or corporate accounting experience.
  • Experience leading employees, setting expectations, managing performance, and developing team capability.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, general accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, accrual accounting, journal entries, month-end close, financial reporting support, and internal controls.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical ability.
  • Experience working in an ERP environment.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, solve problems, and communicate clearly with accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
  • Direct, practical leadership style with the ability to address issues, make decisions, and drive accountability.
  • Manufacturing accounting, cost accounting exposure, or multi-site manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • CPA license strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting an ERP implementation, ERP upgrade, finance transformation, automation, or process improvement initiative preferred.
