Medtronic Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) Device Embedded System (DES) organization develops the next generation medical technologies that alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life for millions of patients across the world.
Our safety critical embedded software is developed via design control procedures used within the medical device industry. As a Senior Software Engineering Manager in the Cardiac Rhythm Management organization, you will leverage your technical breadth and your leadership skills by leading teams that are responsible for designing, developing, verifying, and delivering post-market support for implantable embedded software.
The Device Embedded System team develops life-restoring therapies and diagnostic healthcare solutions that span the care continuum; integrating technologies and applying clinical and economic evidence to increase patient access, improve efficiency of procedures and deliver successful patient outcomes.
We are looking for highly motivated and accountable software leader looking to innovate in a fun and fast paced environment with a passion to improve peoples' quality of life. This individual will operate in all phases and contribute to all activities of the software development process.
This position is in Mounds View, MN. within the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) unit. At Medtronic, we bring bold ideas forward with speed and decisiveness to put patients first in everything we do. We are working on-site 4 days per week as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary. This role will require less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.

A Day in the Life:
The Functional Manager is accountable for the quarterly objectives and overall engagement of the organization. This includes responsibility for building and maintaining a team that consistently delivers embedded software functional excellence. The Functional Manager is ultimately accountable for their teams' performance and execution. In general, the following responsibilities apply for the Senior Software Engineering Manager role. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the IoT Services organization. Influences direct reports to focus on technical leadership, knowledge transfer, and career growth.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to analyze flow metrics, fostering a culture of software engineering excellence and continuous improvement while effectively managing cost, scope, and schedule commitments.
  • Sets team and individual goals that align with key business outcomes. Monitors progress and provide quarterly performance feedback to direct reports.
  • Develop, evaluate, monitor and maintain design control systems that establish processes and best practices, considering both external and internal stakeholders.
  • Escalates issues following established governance practices as appropriate.
  • Develop strategic staffing plans to ensure organizational scalability and operational continuity that support organizational objectives.

Qualifications-
MUST HAVE - MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or math and minimum of 7 years of work experience in science, technology, engineering, math OR advanced degree in science, technology, engineering, or math, with 5 years of technical experience and 5 years of demonstrated managerial experience
Nice to Have
  • Demonstrate strong skills and deep technical expertise across complex software ecosystems, particularly IoT ecosystems
  • Demonstrated Embedded Design and regulatory experience, especially post-market/released medical device software
  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to influence embedded practices and organizational processes with all levels of R&D.
  • Experience working with common tools such as Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines and microservices architecture.
  • Energetic communication, leadership, documentation, and interpersonal skills

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$175,200.00 - $262,800.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
