What is a senior recruiter?

A senior recruiter provides staffing solutions for businesses. As a senior recruiter, you will most likely work in a human resources (HR) department, developing recruitment strategies and assisting with the hiring process. You may also work independently or for a private recruiting agency, seeking to place qualified candidates with companies in need of those skills. You often work with little supervision, but the job still requires frequent communication with other members of the HR team and with clients. Your career will benefit from skills like negotiation, an intuition for recognizing talent, and experience in the HR field. Most senior recruiters have a bachelor’s degree, and many pursue qualifications like a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certificate.

The main difference between a Senior Recruiter and a Recruiter lies in experience, strategic involvement, and scope of responsibilities. Senior Recruiters typically handle more complex hiring processes and mentor junior staff, whereas Recruiters focus on sourcing and screening candidates. Both roles are essential in the hiring process, but the Senior Recruiter operates at a higher level of expertise and decision-making.

What does a senior recruiter do?

A senior recruiter is responsible for sourcing, screening, and hiring candidates for various roles within an organization. They develop recruitment strategies, manage relationships with hiring managers, and often use applicant tracking systems to streamline the hiring process. Their role requires strong communication skills and industry knowledge to attract qualified candidates efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Recruiter, you need expertise in talent acquisition, interviewing, and candidate assessment, often supported by a bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), HR databases, and sourcing platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, negotiation abilities, and a proactive approach help build strong relationships with both candidates and hiring managers. These skills ensure effective recruitment processes, high-quality hires, and alignment with organizational goals.

How much do senior recruiters make in the US?

Senior recruiters in the US typically earn an average salary ranging from $70,000 to $110,000 per year, depending on experience, industry, and location. Many senior recruiters also receive bonuses and benefits, and proficiency with applicant tracking systems (ATS) and sourcing tools can enhance earning potential.

What are some common challenges senior recruiters face when sourcing candidates for specialized roles?

Senior Recruiters often encounter challenges when sourcing candidates for highly specialized or technical positions, as the talent pool can be limited and passive candidates may not be actively seeking new opportunities. Building strong relationships with industry professionals, maintaining an up-to-date network, and leveraging advanced sourcing tools are key strategies to overcome these hurdles. Additionally, Senior Recruiters frequently collaborate with hiring managers to refine job requirements and adjust search strategies, ensuring alignment with both the organization's needs and market realities.

Job description

Mythic is looking for a Senior Recruiter with deep, hands-on experience hiring for the semiconductor industry to own full-cycle recruiting for some of our most technical and highest-impact roles. You'll partner directly with hiring managers, engineering leaders, and executives to build hiring strategy for hard-to-fill positions across chip design, process engineering, and silicon validation — and you'll bring the industry fluency and network needed to find and close candidates other recruiters can't reach.
What you'll do
  • Own full-cycle recruiting for technical and leadership roles across the semiconductor org, including RTL/design engineers, process integration engineers, device physicists, packaging engineers, test and validation engineers, and technical program managers.

  • Act as a strategic partner to hiring managers and senior leaders, advising on market conditions, compensation benchmarking, org design, and hiring strategy rather than just sourcing against a req.

  • Build and maintain a strong personal network and talent pipeline across semiconductor companies, fabs, and adjacent industries (EDA, foundry, equipment, materials).

  • Lead sourcing strategy for niche and passive candidates, using deep knowledge of semiconductor sub-disciplines (analog/mixed-signal, digital design, DFT, CMOS process, packaging, yield/reliability) to identify qualified talent.

  • Manage a high volume of concurrent searches, including confidential and executive-level searches, with minimal oversight.

  • Drive an excellent candidate experience from first contact through offer and close, including offer strategy and negotiation.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert internally on semiconductor talent markets, compensation trends, and competitor landscape.

  • Mentor and support junior recruiters and coordinators; contribute to TA process improvement, tooling, and employer branding initiatives.

  • Partner with HR and compensation teams to structure competitive, equitable offers in a highly competitive talent market.

What you'll bring
  • 5-8 years of full-cycle recruiting experience, with a significant, demonstrated focus on the semiconductor industry.

  • Proven track record recruiting for technical semiconductor roles (e.g., design, process/integration, product/test engineering, packaging, CAD/EDA, or manufacturing).

  • Strong existing network of semiconductor talent and fluency in industry-specific technical terminology, org structures, and career paths.

  • Experience partnering with senior technical leaders (Director+) on hiring strategy, headcount planning, and org design.

  • Track record of closing passive, competitive candidates in a tight talent market.

  • Deep knowledge of compensation structures and equity/leveling practices common in semiconductor and broader hardware/tech companies.

  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and negotiation skills.

  • Experience with applicant tracking systems (e.g., Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby) and sourcing tools (LinkedIn Recruiter, etc.).

  • Ability to manage a high-volume, high-complexity req load independently.

At Mythic, we pride ourselves in creating a culture where all employees feel valued and appreciated for the diverse perspectives and backgrounds they bring to the team.
