Requirements
VMG Health is seeking a Managing Director, Performance Excellence to help establish, lead, and grow the firm's Margin Improvement & Performance Excellence platform within the Strategy & Partnership Advisory business unit. Reporting to the Head of Strategy & Partnership Advisory, this individual will partner with hospitals, health systems, physician enterprises, and other healthcare organizations to improve financial performance, optimize operations, and drive sustainable growth.
The Managing Director will serve as a trusted advisor to healthcare executives while helping expand VMG Health's presence in the performance excellence marketplace. This role combines client advisory, business development, thought leadership, and practice-building responsibilities, leveraging VMG Health's broader capabilities across strategy, physician enterprise, valuation, transaction advisory, compliance, and operational consulting services to deliver measurable results for clients.
Key Responsibilities
  • Help establish and expand VMG Health's Margin Improvement & Performance Excellence offering across hospitals, health systems, physician enterprises, and other healthcare provider organizations.
  • Lead client engagements focused on operational transformation, margin improvement, revenue enhancement, cost optimization, productivity improvement, and organizational performance.
  • Partner with executive leadership teams to identify opportunities for growth, performance improvement, and long-term financial sustainability.
  • Develop actionable strategies and implementation roadmaps that deliver measurable operational and financial outcomes.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to C-suite executives, physician leaders, and boards on performance improvement, transformation, and enterprise optimization initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities.
  • Collaborate across VMG Health service lines to deliver integrated solutions and maximize client value.
  • Support strategic partnerships, affiliations, joint ventures, and other growth initiatives that align with client objectives.
  • Contribute to thought leadership, market development, and the continued advancement of VMG Health's performance excellence capabilities.
  • Mentor and develop team members while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and client service excellence.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Eight (8)+ years of healthcare consulting, health system operations, strategy, performance improvement, transformation, or related leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading margin improvement, operational excellence, performance transformation, or enterprise optimization initiatives.
  • Experience working with hospitals, health systems, physician groups, and other healthcare provider organizations.
  • Proven ability to build executive-level relationships and generate new business opportunities.
  • Experience leading complex client engagements and managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Deep understanding of healthcare provider economics, organizational performance, and operational improvement strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of hospital operations, physician enterprise management, healthcare strategy, and financial performance improvement.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead strategic discussions.
  • Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment and help build new capabilities and service offerings.

Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA, MHA, MPH, or other relevant advanced degree.
  • Experience with a leading healthcare consulting firm, health system advisory practice, or performance improvement organization.
  • Experience leading large-scale transformation, operational redesign, or margin improvement programs.
