What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior Leave Management Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Leave Management Specialist, you need deep knowledge of leave laws (FMLA, ADA, state/local regulations), experience in HR administration, and often a bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field. Familiarity with HRIS platforms, leave management software, and compliance tracking tools is typically required, and certifications like SHRM-CP or PHR are beneficial. These competencies ensure legal compliance, minimize organizational risk, and facilitate a positive employee experience.

What is the difference between Senior Leave Management vs Leave Coordinator?

Employer & Industry UsageLarge organizations, HR departmentsVarious organizations, HR or administrative teams

Senior Leave Management professionals focus on developing leave policies, strategic planning, and overseeing leave programs, often in larger organizations. While both roles involve leave administration, Senior Leave Management has a broader strategic scope compared to the operational focus of Leave Coordinators.

What does a Senior Leave Management specialist do?

A Senior Leave Management specialist oversees and administers employee leave programs, such as Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), disability leave, and other statutory or company-offered leave benefits. They ensure compliance with federal, state, and local leave laws, and serve as a key point of contact for employees and managers regarding leave policies and procedures. Additionally, they may analyze leave data, provide guidance on complex cases, and help develop or update leave management policies. Their role is crucial in balancing employee needs with organizational requirements, maintaining accurate records, and minimizing legal risks.

How does a Senior Leave Management professional typically collaborate with HR and payroll teams to ensure accurate leave processing?

A Senior Leave Management professional works closely with both HR and payroll departments to ensure all leave requests, approvals, and records are accurately processed and compliant with company policies and legal requirements. They often serve as the central point of contact for leave-related issues, troubleshooting discrepancies and clarifying policy details. Additionally, they may lead training sessions for managers and HR staff, and coordinate with payroll to verify that leave balances and payments are reflected correctly in employee records.

We are seeking an experienced Senior HR Generalist to support employee relations, payroll administration, HR compliance, recruiting, onboarding, compensation, benefits administration, leave management, and day-to-day HR operations for our growing organization. This is a highly hands-on role for someone who enjoys tactical execution, problem-solving, and building strong internal systems in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is comfortable owning responsibilities directly rather than delegating them to a team.
This Role Is a Fit If You:
• Enjoy building structure and improving processes in a growing organization
• Can balance empathy, professionalism, and accountability
• Thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
• Prefer hands-on execution over purely strategic oversight
• Are comfortable navigating employee issues and difficult conversations
• Want to contribute to a mission-driven organization focused on helping others
What You'll Do:
• Support all aspects of the employee lifecycle including recruiting, onboarding, employee
relations, performance management, and offboarding
• Provide HR guidance and support to managers and employees regarding policies,
procedures, employee concerns, and workplace issues
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and HR regulations
including FLSA, POWR Act, EPEW, leave laws, and other applicable employment
requirements
• Assist with policy development, implementation, and ongoing updates
• Support compensation, benefits administration, and leave management processes
• Maintain employee records, HR documentation, and administrative processes
• Assist with recruiting efforts including job postings, interview coordination, candidate
communication, and onboarding logistics
• Partner with leadership to improve HR systems, workflows, and internal processes
• Help support a positive, professional, and accountable workplace culture
Qualifications:
• 5-7 years of progressive Human Resources experience required
• Strong knowledge of HR compliance, employee relations, employment law, and HR best practices
• Experience supporting hiring, onboarding, compensation, benefits administration, leave
management, and HR operations
• Experience assisting with policy development and implementation
• Strong working knowledge of federal and Colorado employment regulations
• Experience with HRIS systems and payroll platforms; Paylocity experience strongly preferred
• Strong attention to detail, especially related to payroll accuracy and compliance
• Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion
• Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with leadership
• Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, or service-based industries preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, or related field preferred
• PHR, SHRM-CP, or related certification is a plus
Why Lighthouse
• Opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a growing organization on the cutting edge
of mental healthcare. Ability to help shape HR processes and people operations during
an exciting stage of growth
• A collaborative and supportive leadership team dedicated to the business and employee well-being.
• Mission-driven work that directly supports helping clients on their mental healthcare journey.
• Professional growth and development opportunities

• $70,000-$80,000 annually, depending on experience
